any fuelling changes will have to be made to the lpg system not the cars ecu but yes the principle is similar but a bit more involved

plenty of range rover v8s running cams exhausts ported heads etc using lpg putting out good power and running better on gas :D

just add you get crap gas just like crap unleaded has to be somewhere with a regular supply
i have only had crap gas once in 3 years though

Just got my new 03 WRX - all I can say is wow, the handling is absolutely amazing (compared to my fat Golf MKIV). As I'm running it in, I aren't taking it over 4,000 rpm - is there much more of a kick left above this (I realise peak power is around 6,000 rpm).

I was wondering if it is possible to do a (dual fuel) LPG conversion on the cars to cut costs when simply commuting and not booting it. Sorry if its been asked before but IE is playing up so I can't even do a search...cheers...

You can get them converted to dual fuel, but you do loose some performance on these engine, plus make sure you get the latest kit which includes multi point injection for the LPG and NOT the old single point system. You might even be able to get a rebate on the cost of converting also, check this out with the supplier of the conversion. make sure you use a garage who comes reccommended and not simply the cheapest as you will pay more in the long run having to keep taking it back for repairs.
Please be aware that you will loose any manufacturers warranty on the car once this system is fitted as Subaru dont yet recognise LPG conversions.

subaru do recognise lpg systems they actually list lpg cars in other countries although not the turbo :(

they can be done though as said previously but it will cost at least £2k to do it right you wont get any rebate/grant from powershift though.

If you are keeping the car for a while and doing big miles it is worth it my leggy turbo does 90-100 miles for £10:)

If you're worried about economy I'd think twice about PPP. My WRX 03 PPP has done 2k now and I get 25mpg combined and that's with quite a bit of sensible driving so I recon when I boot it I'm getting well down into single figures.

Someone said when it was run in it would be more economical - so far it isn't!

Was hoping for 30mpg combined based on long runs I do for work.

LPG on the face of it it is a good idea as LPG has got a ron of 102 or there abouts, so det should not be a problem. I don't know all the in's and out's of forced induction and gas though.But in theory it should work well.

Re LPG - I'm only worried about economy when I'm sitting in traffic jams and pottering about round town. I don't mind getting single figures when I boot it...

Just wondering how it would effect being able to tune it? I'm thinking if I used a two stage ecutek boost - run low boost on the gas (maybe even lower than standard??), and high boost on petrol?? I realise that the biggest gains would be from fully converting to LPG (ie no petrol) and enjoy the benefits of 102 RON - but I'm too much of a coward and don't fancy the idea of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere without a gas pump...

people dont believe my leggy runs lpg full time even on cold starts it runs fine doesn,t apear to loose any power had 140 on speedo (on a private road ) :D

So am I right in thinking that any tuning on a petrol Turbo will be fine on LPG - as long as I aren't having to add Octane booster to SUL??
