Yesterday with the car spluttering on roundabouts and inclines/declines managed to get to the gas station and squeeze in 57 litres worth (1st click 56.33 - my record is 57.57). Seems daft and misleading quoting the capacity as 60 litres when the usuable amount is below this. I suppose on a nice flat straight road you might be able to use more but not by much I would've thought.

MadMark 06 November 2003 01:43 PM

TelBoy 06 November 2003 01:46 PM

Scary??

Why, did it bark at you or something??

:p

Daz WRX 06 November 2003 01:54 PM

not on a scoob but my old calibra with 60litres and I went up to 60.5 or something, I guess tank is a little larger.

StickyMicky 06 November 2003 04:25 PM

52 litres here
im not geeky enough to take note of the .00 figure ;)

yoza 06 November 2003 04:35 PM

Fourty quid.

windyboy 06 November 2003 04:38 PM

This has puzzled me as well, I thought that my tank was about 50 litres but after I put in about 30 litres into a nearly empty tank the petrol gauge reads nearly full.

clintyboy12 06 November 2003 05:22 PM

Neil W 06 November 2003 05:27 PM

MY01 WRX 56 litres

wannbe scooby 06 November 2003 05:52 PM

i thought you did a lot of damage to cars when you start suking all c**p out of empty fuel tanks i thought it would be better to keep fuel above quarter so as not to get this problem.

pugoetru 06 November 2003 06:23 PM

70 litres!

of lpg :D

demonic 06 November 2003 06:31 PM

anybody any ideas how big the tank on a '96 wagon WRX will be as the gauge looks pretty empty at 35 litres

Franko 06 November 2003 06:37 PM

40 quid for me too :D

vulnax999 07 November 2003 01:32 AM

The fuel tanks differ in size on some models, you either have a 50 l tank ( think later cars ? ) or 60 l tank.

My jap MY94 has a 60 l tank.

BTW, fuel surge when near empty is not big and not clever!
Guess what happens to engine parts when the engine doesn't get the fuel it expects .... melty piston time!

STi8 - 59.25 litres...on "automatic stop", ie I didn't try to get that much in on purpose, it just happened.
And this was about 5km after the fuel light came on (I was doing 240kph, given).
After that I've never trusted the warning light ever again.
Usually it comes on when there's about 10l left.

But...And this I can't understand...I ran out of fuel in the same car (on my way home after collecting it, would you believe), and then it only took 53 litres.

Could there have been an airlock or something in the tank?

SHAGGY6603 07 November 2003 06:50 AM

CORNER!!

Thought it was well known that Impreza Fuel gauges were pretty innaccurate!

Don't know why but both my WRX'S (MY'93 then MY'97) have read the same ie.

Full reads Full

3/4'S reads still full

1/2 reads Half full

1/4 reads empty (bottom mark on scale)

empty reads bottom of the E

I've not let my new(er) one go below the bottom mark of the scale, and from there have never got more than 45 litres in it, which to me means it must still have 15 litres in it (60 litre tank)ie 1/4 full.

If I remember rightly with classics all 4 doors and most wagons have 60 litre tanks, whilst some early wagons have 50 litre tanks. Don't know about the new age ones though.

Makes you wonder about all the "160 Miles to a Tank" threads though. I meann they never seem to say how much they put in, just the "a tank" referance. Are they filling up at the bottom of the scale or the bottom of the "e"? I reckon 1/4 tank/ 15 litres might make a bit of a differance!

fookin loads - every time I give it a bit a of a blast I end up puttin £36 in - twice a day some days when I'm running about for work.

Seriously never got more than 10.5 gallons in her

Aztec Performance Ltd 07 November 2003 11:52 PM

I only ever put in enough to get to the next Shell Station to keep the cars weight down....

....thats about £40 ! :)

ThrustSSC 08 November 2003 11:52 AM

I ran out once, a mile short of the services I was heading for - the light only came on 21 easy miles before it. I should have heeded the surging on a tight corner 10 miles before I ran out...

I popped the 5 spare liters I always carry in the tank, drove the last mile, and used 59.00 to fill the car and put 5.00 litres back in the can.

So I cant see any way I'm every going to get the full 60 litres in - I assume the number quoted by Subaru is total capacity not usable capacity.
