I've seen a couple of threads on here regarding MY03 wrx's using oil. Whats the norm for them using oil. Mines used 2 litres in 7000 miles, anyone else had as much as this? I'm using the same oil as the dealer A&J Whites at Blackburn to top up, which is Havoline Energy 5/30 (its a texaco oil).

Mine has used a quarter of a litre in the first 9K miles and the local dealer topped it up with Castrol Magnatex.

Good job they did too, as quarter of a litre took it from the min to the max mark, I'd have poured far more in than that before checking the level!!!

The mechanic also said that it shoudn't need topping up between services again.

My WRX is a company car and as such does not use oil :D

Mine's used half a litre in the 2000 miles since the 1000 mile service. According to other threads posted here, there is no point in filling above the half way mark, as it will dissapear again very quickly. I think this advice has been endorsed by Subaru themselves (a search for similar threads will confirm). I hope the oil consumption is going to settle down soon, because I consider anything more that half a litre between services to be excessive.

Also, I believe 5W30 oil may be too thin for the Subaru engine. I think the recommended grade is 10W40 (I am currently using Castrol RS, which is 10W60).
