Hi all, I've just had my air con topped up under warranty on my UK MY99. The silver cylinder thing with the viewing window used to show green bubbly liquid....now I cannot see any liquid at all http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
It appears to be working ok though because the cold pipe in the engine bay is very cold.
I was under the impression that a healthy aircon system presented a clear (no bubbles) flow of the fluid when observed from the viewing window http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif
Any thoughts ?

Hi just looks like this time the did not put any die in it, this is done to check for leaks, I just had aircon gas topped up and they put green die in it to check for leaks, I surpose it is better to have it for future prob's but not essential.

If you every have a problem with it your going to take it back then they will have to put the die in to check where the problem is.

On average your suppose to have your aircon drained then regassed, not just regassed every 2 years, if its done properly its vaccumed out, left for 15mins then re gassed and it should be as good as new http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif if you dont then nasty things grow in it and give you 'orrible germs http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif and it also gets rid of all the water thats built up in your system http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

TopCat - Where did you gets yours topped up, and how much ?

Most places will only quote for the full drain and regass etc for 80-100 pounds

It is a serious question mate !
I use the air con in the winter to de-humidify the air to clear the windscreen.
Problem is mine does not fire up below about 2 deg http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
Reported this to the dealer (4 months ago)and they are trying find out if this is a correct function of the scooby air con.

If the outside temp is 2 below, the inside temp is probably below the lowest thermostat setting as well (unless the car is kept inside a garage), hence the compressor will not cut in. Maybe you got to warm it up to at least room temp first with the heater then only try the aircon.

There's a thermocouple on the evaporator, I think that the temp is so low that the compressor is not allowed to cut in. Whack the heater temp to hot, then try it.
