35 never claimed ever in 17 years except for glass maximum NCD. One conviction this year (MS90)should have took the sp30. Tracker installed and my premium went up £150 this year for renewal with Greenlight.

Even sent me a letter saying they wont renew this year because of my record in the last year????? ( Very Miffed ).

Called them to question this and it turned out that the insurance company had recorded someone elses own fault claim on my records that was nice of them.

I will be writing to complain and ensure its removed good job I checked.

I know there have been loads of total losses on Subaru's in the past year which is why a lot of insurers are quoting high premiums but its ridiculous.
TVR Cerbera came in nearly £200 less without a tracker where is the logic in that?

Cheapest so far is Greenlight at nearly £900 against:

Privledge £1150
Egg £975
Liverpool & Victoria £950
Lloyds TSB ( Zenith ) I did not match there criteria??

The list goes on gonna buy a Fiesta I reckon or am I being too harsh??

Try some of the big boys (depending on mods) Swinton, AA, Budget and NU Direct. Seems high to me, as Motor Insurance is what I do for a living.

I'm with greenlight, but i believe they dont want anymore subaru custom as its coming up for renewal, because of the high number of claims.

Vanish 03 November 2003 11:33 AM

Swinton £1447
Bell - Not eligible
Performance direct - told they wont get under £1500
Direct choice - not eligible
Tesco - £1100
Direct Line £1147

The search continues. I wonder if I am living in the car crime capital of England

From what I heard Greenlight are no longer doing Scoobies.. I think they have suffered a bit on the claims front.

Scoobies don't have the best of reputations and the fact that many of the older greys and UK Turbos are falling into the price ranges of younger and possibly less responsible drivers (not all - but some) and as a result many more are being stolen and crashed... Insurers quickly get a picture of them being vehicles that they regularly have to pay out on claims for. They become less attractive to insurers and they up their prices to get more money in the kitty in the first place for the potential claims - or to price themselves out of contention so that they do not take on more of them in future..

Its the same old case of a minority spoiling it for the majority.. the insurers do not have much choice...

Everyone on here seems to think that just because an insurer increases a premium one year or charges £100 more than someone else that they are a bunch of w4nkers etc.. not true... for example a recent report said that for every £1 Tesco Insurance take on in premium they pay out £1.40 in claims... they are losing money all the time. They only way of dealing with this is by diappearing altogether or upping premiums..

Realistically though, the main problems are all of the dishonest w4nkers that drive around uninsured and the other dishonest w4nkers that look to claim for personal injury given any excuse. They are the biggest drain of cash on the insurance industry - period !!

Tighten up on these pr1cks and we'll all see insurance premiums drop.

In your case... a lot less TVRs get crashed/stolen than Subarus and generally attract a different type of owner to a Subaru. As a result specialist insurance is a lot easier to come by and premiums will be more attractive.

An MS90 conviction is a pretty serious one and one that an insurer would look upon quite severely as it suggests a level of dishonesty, which is one thing that insurers pounce upon for obvious reasons.

You don't match Zenith's criteria because you drive a Subaru Impreza Turbo variant. They no longer insure these due to their previous claims experience..

Hope this sheds some light on why things are as they are.

Mad Hammer 03 November 2003 01:52 PM

Vanish, have you any mods? If you have that is your main problem. If not keep trying all the main strem insurers.

I have seen lots of comments on Scoobynet saying scoobs are becoming more difficult to insure. This is not the case. I'm an account manager in the insurance industry and I can't think of one insurer I deal with that has changed the way they rate scoobs (although that only 20 companies). The group of a car lives with it all of it's life. Yes, certain insurers won't entertain high group cars but many will.

I think the main problem is most of us on here have modded scoobs and that's what stops most insurers quoting realistic prices. The industry still looks unfavourably on this unfortunatly.

Cheers

Clive

Greenlight seem to have just automatically added £150 to every policy. When i questioned the increase even though the car is of lower value 1 year on with no changes elswhere they wouldnt respond.

There are some very valid and constructive points had I known the MS90 was going to be that damaging. It could have been any 1 of 5 drivers the pic was not clear at all I would not have taken it or at least taken the sp30.

Going to review owning one in the future just spoke to a 22 year old RB5 owner and his insurance is £1400 a year. A lot of quotes if I get one at all are coming in at that for me at the age of 35.

Vanish,

Try Adrian Flux. They dont always get good reviews here but I have been with them for the last two years and they have been by far the most competitive.

I called them today for a quote to change to an STi8 and the premium was still much lower than others had quoted for my WRX.

Worth a try!

Called L&V direct instead of using conflicting online systems came out very good so I am satisfied now thankfully.
Thanx to everyone for the input and info though all the same.

Yes, the police tax collectors and courts seem to be using the MS90 to ensure that none of us contend any of their allegations or fight our own cases. Either way they have us as if you try to defend your speeding fine then they slap an MS90 on you just to ensure that you or your mates don't think about doing it again.

The insurance companies seem keen to jump on any chance to increase premiums. I have noticed that, of late, where they used to ignore an SP30 they now like to add on a few quid to increase the profit margins. This despite recent research which indicates that drivers travelling at speeds moderately in excess of the posted limit are the safest people on the road, they are paying attention, matching their speed to the conditions etc.

Is it any wonder the police seem to be losing the support of those would would have stood up for them in the past. They don't catch criminals, all they do is increase the financial load on the average man in the street. Now the insurance companies seem to be coming in on their side.

currymonster 12 November 2003 07:13 PM

can you clarify, what's an ms 90?

Abbylad 13 November 2003 12:16 AM

Vanish, have you tried elephant.co.uk?
£900 with a s/s exhaust (de-cat) for me with 8 years protected no-claims on a P1.

p.s. am 27 :D

Mad Hammer 13 November 2003 10:06 AM

MS90 is a miscellaneous offence code.
