Martin Cook 22 May 2000 02:05 PM

I have just called my insurance broker to inform him of fitting new 17 wheels and Eibach springs to my MY99. He rang me back to inform me that the insurance company (Zenith) will no longer cover me for the car. The next best quote was for £1,633.00 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

Im just printing off some other insurance threads to allow me to call round but has anybody else got any numbers to call?

Thanks in advance.

Martin

This may not help but a mate of mine had similar problems with his Supra. He went through all kinds of grief trying to find a quote as good as his original one and was considering forking out lots on upgraded security to bring the premiums down. Anyway his best effort was a lot more expensive than before the mods were done. When he rang his existing insurer to actually cancel the policy they made an about turn and let him keep his existing policy. Best still since they did not officially recognise mods, they had no pricing scheme and the premiums remained unchanged.

Cheers

I was also originaly with Zenith and wanted to change the backbox broker told me they would cover no mods. I an now with Greenlight Tel 01277 263030 covered all mods and were cheaper. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

My current broker tried to charge me £2000 for my new car, when last year I paid £1200 (quite modified!)

Tried Greenlight on 01277-263030, and they quoted me £825!!

Give me a go!!

Andy

Looks like Jason just beat me to say the same thing!!

Bennets Elite cater for mods and were the cheapest by far for me.

Martin Cook 22 May 2000 05:07 PM

Down to £921 with Axa.

Getting there!!

Try Barclays. They use Privelege but, bizarrely, quoted my £100 less than Privelege, with only £100 excess too, and unlimited hi-fi and track day cover free. As long as you don't mod it to >10% extra power, the rise in premium is tiny (£40 for me). I'm very pleased with mine!

Greenlight, Admiral and Privelidge should be amongst the cheapest.

Am I old boaring or what! I was quoted only £600 for an STi 5 . I am 33 and that covered buisness use as well. That was with O P I. But with no mods.

Just a thought on the Bennetts Elite, I had a better quote than them (forget who from) and phoned Bennetts back to see if they'd match it and they beat it!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Worth a try when you've finished ringing round.

Try Supercar insurance - they are cheaper than Bennetts (for me they were)

Cant remember number - but they are on an insurance thread

Also try Barclays direct - they were by far the cheapest - but unfortunately did not cover you to drive other cars 3rd party

As for Greenlight - they did not get back to me after '2' attempts - and I had not even given them any details - incompetent! - perhaps they like to lose money as I paid £1430 in the end (protected) - and yes, I have many, many convictions, and the cars modded

Gone with Bennets Elite @ £870.00.
Good excess at £250 plus all normal extras.

Thanks to all again

Mark at OPI - 0870 242 0800 (broker) has always been able to get me and others the best quote around. Last time premiums on the Impreza were £130 cheaper than any other quote, and on a friends GTA he was £350 cheaper - although he does need 'pushing' sometimes.

Green light were on Drugs or something yesterday.

I phoned for a quoat as the insurance is up end of June. 34 years, 1 year NCB HKS Super Dragger Exhaust. only £2400 and thats with limited to 5000 miles and social use only !!!!!

Markus 23 May 2000 10:26 AM

barge:
'kin hell mate! My 94 WRX Wagon has a full SuperDrager as well, plus non standard alloys, lowered suspension, strut brace and HKS 'induction' kit. My quote from Admiral was aprox £1400, which is the cheapest quote I got. I'm 26 with 3 years NCB. Might be worth giving Admiral a try.

hutton_d 23 May 2000 11:39 AM

Try the NFU - just insured with them and the only mods they load you for are engine mods i.e. ones that *enhance* performance. Suspension, wheels etc are fine.
