I want to up the boost on my car by using an electronic boost controller.

I've had lot's of different recommendations, but are there owners running these, and how easy are they use, install, etc??

I've been recommended the:

HKS EVC IV
Blitz DSBC
Apexi Super AVC-R

Any others I should consider??

Thanks
Andy

Powerstation can supply and install the HKS unit for you, i think it takes about a morning to fit and set up correctly.

Andy,
I use Blitz DSBC for 2 months now and I am very happy with it.Installation is easy,no splicing to ECU.Tuning is a little different from others but once you get use to it,then it's easy.
Blitz controller itself is very small and give a slight advantage where to mount it.
With EBC preset to 1.3bar,the EBC can boost to 1.3bar in 1st gear.A friend with DSBC on his STi confirm this as well,ie 1.3 bar at 1st gear.
Email me privately if you want to see pictures of this EBC.

Paul,

Thanks for that, I've seen their handy work on RichR's car!

Chan HT,

Thanks for your offer. If I go the Blitz route, I'll email you then. If I don't thanks anyway!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Cheers

Whats the relative costs of the controllers, the Hks is about £450...and the rest?????

Andy Tang 15 March 2001 11:31 PM

DD,

I think it's worth putting it on a rolling road, to check fuelling, boost levels, etc. Make sure that the car isn't retarding the ignition too much, detting, etc!

I spoke to Power Engineering, and they suggest an hour, which is £90+VAT, after the controller is fitted!

PE could supply and fit the Blitz boost controller, but it was about 4 hours labour!! £360+VAT!!! and the cost of the controller!!!

Andy,
GREddy do several, their site is quite good.

The GReddy has some very cool features like hi-boost, lo-boost, overtake boost and the optional extra overtake boost button on the steering wheel! Also it's quite pricey from what I've seen.

Personally I only want it to raise the boost slightly, and I don't want the temptation of the overtake feature!! I will make my engine go boom!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Though it is a cool gadget if you can restrain yourself from blowing up your engine!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
