I currently have a 97 Reddish Blue Sport and am in the mood to change the car to a Turbo but do around 65 miles a day and wondered what the petrol is like. I fill the car every four days with around £33 of petrol and that gives me 260 miles ish. I know if you kick the car it will give a lot less mpg but if you are sensible how does it compare. Anyone out there interested in a trade?.

There was a mutha of a thread on this mid to late last year I think where pages of people put down what they get. Try a search.

Taz,
I drive about 60 odd miles a day to and from work and use about 2 -3 gallans a day depending how I feel, so thats *4.54 * 0.78 = cost per day for my MY00 uk turbo

Taz,

I drive an MY98 anything between 50 and 350 miles a day out on sales calls, it is mostly motorway driving and I can expect 300-320 miles out of most tanks, however I have had 160 miles out of a tank driving hard all the time.

Taz,

I run mine on SUL (uk turbo) and have about £45 tank. I get about 250 miles from a tank. Get friendly with your local filling attendant!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif worth it though.

Hi Taz

Did i tell you what i get the other week???

Oh well here goes.......i drive on A roads mostly and get about 265 miles out of ~48 litres.

Hope this helps...Ian

I drive a 93 Legacy Turbo with 76000 miles on it and get around 260-280 miles of varied driving out of 50L

kenny.c 09 March 2001 11:15 PM

With a mixture of town and motorway driving
I generally get 260 ish. Driving fast I get
200.

MarkL 12 March 2001 03:18 PM

Surely saying how many miles you get from a tank is pointless because everyone puts different amounts of fuel in on a fill-up? Nobody runs the tank empty and puts in 60 litres.

I typically get low 20's mpg from a MY98 Turbo (UK), but I do a lot of town and countryside driving and not much motorway miles. With mostly motorway driving I push it over 25 mpg but have only hit 30 mpg once in the cars lifetime.

I run a MY99 Turbo with Induction kit and SSBB on SUL and i recon on the following:
Average 23mpg - mix of commuting and m/way work
Motorway run @ 80-90 MPH 27 MPG(seems more economical between 80-90 than 70-80 mph)
Around town 19-21MPG
'Horsing' it 14 mpg

My MPG is about 10% up once i changed the Filter and B/B (so i believe, i went from 210 to 230 miles on around 10 gallons.

cheers guys this is all good stuff. I think I may have to wait until I get a job where the petrol is paid for by the company as it is a scary amount of fuel.
Taz

keep them coming though.

First Scoob - bog standard MY95. Averaged 18mpg. Would sometimes be better on M'ways but not much.

Current PPP'd MY96 - averages 23mpg.

Taz,

Bet you'd like my number plate!

I have a MY96 UK Wagon and do about 60miles a day on A and B roads and I get about 300miles to 47litres (tank is 50litres)...
Which is about £33...

Previous MY96 UK Wagon was worse and only did about 280miles under same conditions..

They vary a bit...

That is driving easy with the odd blat through the gears...

In theory you should be able to get the same as you get in the Sport if you can drive it outside the turbo lag and out side the Turbo big push! both 2 litres and 4wd... be very boring though...

MY98

I get around 260 miles from a tank (takes around £40 when I refill, about 50 litres). This is with a mixed driving style.

Here's another teaser for you.

Has anyone tried to raise the mpg by adding an aftermarket boost controller and turning it down during the week to conserve fuel and then to turn it up at the weekend for mega fun?. I know this may sound daft but after reading the posts on this, I do not seem to be getting much more mpg out of my sport driving the same way as everyone else. I drive mostly motorway but get a quick run on a country road near home but am still not driving hard at this point.

Taz.(trying to persuade the wife is not easy)

Jolly Green Monster 14 March 2001 10:24 AM

What petrol consumption do you get out of the Sport?

cannot be that much better?

You already have a variable boost controller... called the throttle... you can drive them softly and gain on petrol consumption but it is still going to be getting 20 something be it 29mpg or less

Jolly Green Monster 14 March 2001 11:06 AM

I just re-read you first comment Taz, doh..

sounds like you get similar mpg out of the Sport...

You could always tell the wife you would be home sooner... perhaps not...

TonyBurns 14 March 2001 06:34 PM

Ive had 360miles out of a tank of fuel (roughly) thats an MY00 uk turbo but thats only when i was running her in, now its more like 300 on the motorway and 250 else where ;o)

Tony
