Hello all,

Interesting one this - been looking for some information about CB radio to put in my new toy (My very own Landy, yet to be modded, well, I did only get it yesterday :D)

http://www.hantsscoobies.plus.com/Images/Bob.JPG

...we need it for play-days/greenlaning and a trip for off-roading in the Alps in Italy next summer (talking to vehicles in convoys/calling for help!)

However, I know nothing and I've been having no luck finding information sources on the net...a couple of our friends have Midland 42's which is essentially the whole radio in the microphone bit (see? technical eh?!) but I can't find any info on that either...

I've been looking at ariels and have found some useful info, can anyone tell me what I should be looking for?

I like the look of the Cobra (from what I can tell they seem to have a good reputation?) on this website, and it's the closest I can see to the Midland...any comments?

tbh guys, any information you can give will be useful, as as you can probably tell I can't find any!! lol! :D

Thanks in advance...

(a completely clueless) Jen

At the risk of Muppetizing this thread, I can wholly recommend "Smokey and The Bandit"

You got your ears on?

I've got loads of CB and scanning kit in mine.

Notice the aerial on the roof rack.

Get a 10m Amatuer radio, that has also be soldered to pick up CB freqs.

Take a look at my website http://www.nevetas.com quite allot of info there.

ok anorak on:D

there are two different bands for use in uk one goes from 27.60125-27.99125mhz

other is US bands 26.965-27.405

both FM make sure you get the same as others in your group or you wont be able to talk to them!

get a base loaded antenna as if you use a solid one all the jolting around will break it magmounts are easy to fit but your LR is probably alloy so it wont stick :D

right in the middle is the best place for the antenna as the signal will go all round then

CBs are good if you get lost as a local will be able to help you out

who needs sat nav :D

Hey McCrush and Carl! :p @ you two! ;) :D lol! I intend to sing songs to everyone in my convoy - I'm sure they'll love me! :)

Thanks pugoetru and Nevetas, lots of useful info - I'll check which one's the guys use (I was trying to avoid ringing them as I've been annoying them constantly for Landy info before buying the Disco!! lol! :)) Still, I'm sure they'll be happy to hear from me again :D

Nevetas - Nice 90 :D (if "nice" is the right word! :)) That's my ideal Landy, but I wasn't allowed one...hense the Disco, still a few much needed mods and we should be on our way :D Thanks for the link, I'll have a read of all that when I get home :)

Those Landy's are far by far (;)) too clean :D

CB's are great fun, I never forget taking my old XR3(long time ago) round a tight corner with some mates following in a Volvo 340, and hearing "what are you braking for you pu55y" over the CB. Next Thing I hear is screams and I see the volvo going sideways in the mirrors :D

get a really flexible mast if your going off-roading. Don't want the trees to break it do we? :)

Cheers.

I put some new tyres on the other day, all I need know are some cool steel rims, or even better some cheapo alloys.

Nevetas - Nice tyres :) They're also on my list...along with about a million other things!! Still, new project, gives me something to do at weekends :)
