I've just got hold of a set of boxed side protection strips (Subaru part) - with no instructions. Has anyone had a go at fitting these themselves? If so any tips? They seem simple enough to do, provided you can get them on straight. (I'll have to lay off the shandy for a day or so!)

Hiya, ive got these fitted to my scoob, they go just below the crease on the door, had mine done by the dealer thou so cant tell you how to fit them so there on straight, just have to go by the crease.

Absolutely dead easy to fit...
1.Clean the area below the crease thoroughly to get all the wax etc off.
2.Put the rubber strips on a radiator for an hour or so to get them really supple.
3.Warm the panel the strip is going on to. I initally started using a hairdryer but couldn't get enough heat in so plan B involved a heat gun..BUT BE VERY CAREFUL; The heat gun worked a treat and no the paint did not blister.
4.Using two people fit strip lightly to panel, check its straight and once happy rub on hard.If you get it wrong it will come off.
They actually look really good and seem to stop the inevitable dents from the kind company car drivers in my wifes works car park.
All in all its an easy job you can do yourself, they cost about £38 all in from your local dealer.

Moss, I work in a bodyshop and we fit strips like these all the time and I'd have to say Wal's got it spot on. The only thing I would say is check the gaps at each end of the strip.If you go too far one way or the other it looks daft and can stop the doors opening,I know cos I've done it! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

CLS - I got them second hand from a guy who'd sold his car without fitting them (£15).

The reason I bought them was after a nightmare experience with an old granny in Ripon Market Square!

I was sitting in the car rolling a fag and this Micra pulls in next to me. I look across and see old dear (at least 100 years old) in passenger seat. Instantly I brace myself for the almost certain scraping of DBM. She misses - Yes! However, she has a walking stick and handbag to contend with... Bash, crash, srape the car is battered with handbag/walking stick combo!! Sh!t. Since then I've parked miles from the nearest car - paranoid!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to parking between cars in Tesco when I protected the doors, rather than hiding at the top of the car park miles from the door!

Where do you buy these strips ? I've had a look at scoobysport, Graham Goode & Cheam Motors but they don't appear to list them.

How much does a set cost for a 5 door MY00?

They may not be on the Cheam Motors website, but they are a standard accessory!!

I know I bought mine from Mill Lane!!

Give your local dealer a call!! And look to pay about £45 for the full set!

I had side protectors fitted to my 5 door at Cheam Motors last December and they cost £83 with SIDC discount. They seem to keep the dreaded door dingers away in the station car park. A good investment.

Corners of bumpers seem to suffer - (other)Surrey drivers seem to misjudge where the corners are!

Fitted them today (just about warm enough) and would you believe it - they were called into action straight away... Only it was me this time opening the door into a petrol pump!
