Is it possible to fit the mirrors from a Japanese Import to a UK car??
The only reason I ask, is that I retract my mirrors before parking up in the garage. I'm getting tired of leaning over the passenger seat, to fold in the nearside one!! If so, any ideas where I'd get the mirrors and the electrics to for it?? Thanks Andy |
Andy
Just a thought but why mot get the small 'prodrive' type mirrors that I saw on Scoobymania's site, you wouldn't have to fold them in at-all. Ron ps. Yours is a nice looking car. |
Hi Ron,
I love the look of the Prodrive mirrors, but there is a slight problem!!! £437.10!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Thanks for the comment!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Cheers Andy |
andy , i wouldn't have thought that mirrors that electronically retract from Japan would leave you much change from the 470 odd quid anyway unless you go to a scrapyard !
Imho. sorry. m. |
M,
I'm happy to go to a breakers, if I knew that the wiring loom was in place! Cheers Andy |
You can fit electric folding mirrors and they do cost £400. (see my post £400 for pass mirror)You can get them from Graham Goode, but don't break them like I did mine.

I guess the question really is, is the wiring loom for the retracting mirrors in the UK car??
Also mmason, did you try people like Grade A, who are Subaru breakers?? Might have saved you a couple of quid, although you may have had to add the cost of having them resprayed!! Also did your car have them before, or did you fit them to a UK car? Thanks Andy |
Andy,
I couldn't see anything that would be used for folding mirrors in there. Everything seems to be used by the electric windows and mirror motors http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif Of course, there may be something spare on the mirror loom but I couldn't see it. Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong - please do. I wanted some too as my garage is *exceptionally* tight and I'm getting bored with having to open the window, close the window then open and close the door to reseal the window properly http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Nick. |
My imported Legacy RS has folding mirrors, but they're not heated. My previous UK-spec Legacy had heated mirrors, but they didn't fold. The mirror-operating switches are different, but I'd guess the loom would be the same (on-off for the heating element; on-off for the fold in/out of the mirror body). Don't know for sure, though.
I thought about getting heated mirrors for my car (which would be used more than the folding option), but dealer said they'd be ludicrously expensive, so I didn't pursue it. Brian |
Andy, youre so LARGE, you sit on the drivers and passengers front seats anyhow so whats the problem? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif
|
Andy
My type R had them fitted already, at the moment one is glued together with superglue. I'll try the breakers. PS I don't think mine are heated |
Hi we have retractable mirrors the price is
£150 the pair. ALL THE BEST .ANDY. |
Andy,
Will these fit on a UK car, not physically, but wiring, switches, etc? I would need the lot! Thanks Andy |
Andy, why dont you pick up the "dog & bone" mate rather than bouncing your laziness around on here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Andy
What colour are your old mirrors. My 4 month old deep blue mica Impreza was vandalised on New Year's Eve and was relieved of both mirrors. I would rather avoid the expense of new units if I can find good second hand ones Stuart[ |
Andy,
Have you considered what implications fitting these downright dangerous parts from a nasty-grey-import-deathtrap-that-would-kill-your-grandmother-for-fun car onto your nice-safe-100-british-god-save-the-queen-back-in-time-for-a-nice-cup-of-tea-and-my-favourite-slippers uk cars warrantee? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif oh, and remember to buy the switch (and possibly control unit?) from an import as well, so you have both ends of the system. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif |
Moray,
Thanks for that!! I don't have an issue with the import cars, but someone would say I'm uprading my car, or as I like to think, returning it to the original specification!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif I'm aware that the switch and whatever else would be required. Just wanted someone to confirm, what I actually needed!!! Stuart, My car is silver Thanks all Andy |
I have the same questions as Andy.
I also want folding mirrors for my garage and don't mind doing a little bit of 'fitting' myself, but not re wiring the car! Grade A where are you? I'm interested. Please email details. F [This message has been edited by Floyd (edited 12 January 2001).] |
