Please help. MY94 WRX. Clutch pedal does not always return, sometimes only giving an inch or so of travel. Clutch still works though. Problem does right itself though, performing perfectly for a day or so, before playing up for between a dozen gear changes and a twenty mile drive before righting itself again. Problem does not appear to be related to temp' from engine. I'm sure it is hydraulic - slave or master cylinder. Any ideas or experiences welcome. Cheers, Gonzo.

Its probably the return spring which sits between the actuator fork and a bracket at the back of the engine (you can see it under the intercooler). Over time these lose their elasticity and this causes the pedal to stop returning.

Gonzo, I got the same fault since i fitted a new clutch after checkin it out it was the return spring as Pete sez.

This has happened to me a couple of times. It happened yesterday infact. But I don't think it is a problem, it has happened in other cars I've driven as well.

But what do I know, I'm only a woman.

I just push it slightly and it returns to normal position.

Many thanks guys (and gals) for the replies. I renewed the return spring as Pete suggested, and hey presto it worked - for a while. Same old problem back again. It's now in the garage. They have changed the slave cylinder (was leaking), and still the pedal stuck intermittently. The culprit is the master cylinder bore at the bottom, causing the piston to stick. I will post the outcome for anyone interested, and welcome any further comments. Cheers, Gonzo.
