I've read about resetting the ECU pn my WRX 94 by leaving the battery disconnected, then using super-unleaded only for better performance.
Any-one know how long you have to leave the battery disconnected and does it work ?

Cheers Headcase
Is this common practice or do people usually leave well alone due to any risk factor or messing up the ECU

I do it all the time, it really is as simple as it suggests, although I was a bit nervous the first time.

The only trouble you'll have is putting your back out getting to them, or getting strange looks from passers by if doing it in public....erm what question was I answering? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Last time my car was at Power Engineering on the rollers I asked Mervyn about this ECU Reset. He told me that you don't actually need to reset the ECU at all, just drive the car on a full tank of unleaded, with full boost intervals and the ECU should recalibrate the knock point for the higher octane petrol. Showed me what happens on the computer thingy they have. Bloody clever that.......

That may be true of the later type ECUs, but for the earlier types (ie in Lewegies case) its best to reset the ECU IMHO

Lewegie, if u want even more outta it get u r hanz on some MIllers CVL form scoobymania an do another reset http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif BTW u can go bonkers with the early WRX i run min @ 22lb boost http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Have now done the reset, and didn't realise just how easy it was to do. No removing the cover under the steering wheel next time as the wires are accessible above the pedals.
Difficult to say whether i have noticed much difference though. Still bloody quick.
Whats Millers CVL and how did you get 22lb boost ?
