The trim across the top of my rear window (4dr UK) got pulled off when my garage door decided to close as I reversed out the garage in a gale! Fortunately this was the only damage.

The trim appears to be basically a strip of metal overed in rubber/plastic and some yellow clips. I have got a replacement part but it doesn't seem to want to simply clip back in place. Does it need to be "gunged back" by a windscreen fitter??

Any advice gratefully received.

Chris,
I had the front screen on my MY98 changed, and although I cannot recollect exactly how the piece of trim fitted, and I helped the fitter do the job, as he was at my house, I don't think he had to glue it in.
He manged to break some of the clips along the roof channels though, and had to superglue them together, as no local Subaru dealers had them in stock.

All this is assuming that the rear and front trims are retained by the same means.

Cheers MTR

Were the clips attached to the trim or did the trim attach to the clips once in place?

Chris,
Sorry I can't remember, its almost 2 years ago since I watched him doing the job.

Might be best to pop round to your local windscreen fitting place, and see if they are willing to give some free advice.
Or phone your local Subaru dealer parts dept, and ask them how it fits.

Cheers MTR
