Happened Sunday night

Noticed 4 inch split in windscreen, runs from halfway down passanger side edge for 2 inches, turns through 90 degrees and runs for two inches straight down http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

No impact damage, not jacked car up. Only thing I can think of is that there was a flaw in the edge, water has got in and caused split when temp dropped.

Any ideas anyone, and can it be repaired or do I need to organise a new screen?

Cheers in advance

When my girlfriend had a Fiat Punto as a courtesy car a similar thing happened (And with less than 500 miles on the clock!!). On her's I noticed a tiny little mark which I would assume is where a tiny stone hit the screen in the exact right place to cause the crack to start. You will notice that the crack will just get bigger and bigger until it reaches the bottom of the screen.

Basically you need a new windscreen I am afraid. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Hi

No it can’t be repaired……when you go for a new one remember to check the tint on the old and new screen.
Don’t know what colour car you have or tint, but on mine (Royal Silver) it has a green tint.
The windscreen supplied from Subaru was a different tint. They claimed it was green, (the sticker on it said so).
Checking other makes of windscreens, Pilkington seemed to be the nearest match to mine.
Mine was replaced a year ago so things may have changed since then. Check it out anyway.

Alan

P.S. You still going to S&S tomorrow night? For the new Impreza launch?
Come to that, is anyone else?

Cheers for the info.

Alan - didn't know they were having one!

By the way, where did you get your screen replaced - dealer or autoglas etc?

Cheers

Ps - how was the launch?

My screen was replaced at Auto Windscreens in Hillington. Very helpful and wanted to sort the problem out. Took good care of the car when fitting the screen.

Yep S&S put on a really good night. MD of Subaru UK was there along with Steve Berry and Conrad King.
Showed us the new Impreza and the WRC car for 2001.

400 people turned up for the event..says it all really.

The windscreen cracked on mine a year or so ago, for no apparent reason. Crack started on the passenger pillar, went in a few inches, then went down to the bottom, surrounding the tax disc holder basically.
Auto Windscreens, replaced it okay.

DavieR

Sounds like exactly the same problem.

Weird!!

How old is your car?

..not another MY98 glitch is it?
Mine went in exactly the same spot, as said before be careful of tint fitted as they do green and a cloudy purple colour.

This is starting to sound all too familiar. Although mine was definatly a stone. Happened while following Gazzer back from the AGM this year. Stone + 80mph = new pants. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif
Auto windscreens did a good job after ordering one (took about 2 days). Screen was a green tint. Was told all pre-99 cars have a green tint. My car is also a MY98.
Does seem a bit strange they all appear in the same area http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
