The P1's (and some of my previous cars) have discrete spoilers on them (drivers side) to keep them on the window.
You could nick some of those pick lairey 'square rigger' style from an old XR3
or maybe not... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

SeanG 08 November 2000 12:57 AM

I also have the little spoiler on the drivers side wiper arm. Mine is a UK MY00.
Maybe you could get an upgrade from a dealer?

mmason 08 November 2000 09:40 AM

Can I upgrade my windscreen wipers, they are crap over 100mph. They dont clear the screen, seem to float just above it. The one on the back, that seems to be higher quatilty except I dont go 100mph backwards.

TRIGGER 08 November 2000 10:22 AM

I found this out when at Goodwood last month - not usually a problem on the road of course - seemed at almost exactly 100mph they became useless !

mattski 08 November 2000 10:32 AM

yeh, I start to get it about 90mph... it
just becomes a black moving thing with no
apparent purpose :O)

TRIGGER 08 November 2000 01:14 PM

I have the spoiler - it makes no difference.

Moss 08 November 2000 05:34 PM

I fitted stiffer springs to each arm and this seems to have been fairly successful. They are just a bugger to fit - I had bruises to prove it, on my forehead! I got the springs from the parts bin on the farm (from a seed drill!), but you should be able to get them from any engineer's supplier. A bit of heat and bending is required to get everything to line up, but nothing too taxing.

SCOTTY 08 November 2000 06:32 PM

A friend of mine told me his stopped completely at 140mph.

Scotty

PS: Bloody useless things, he missed his junction http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

ROB MOONS 08 November 2000 07:41 PM

I have only owned my sti for a couple of weeks so ignor this if its complete crap, but i have piaa wipers with a little spoiler and they work a treat. there is no noise or judder even over 100 mph!

mattski 08 November 2000 07:47 PM

piaa wipers ! cool. I have bosche ones with
the little spoiler and they are crap at speed, i.e. about 90mph.

mmason 09 November 2000 12:05 AM

Wow, I did know this was going to be a sensitive issue whilst a good pair of windscreen wipers need to be found, has anyone upgraded the windscreen water spray, as that seems to be a bit on the weak side.

CRAFT 09 November 2000 08:49 AM

we had no problem with originals from 94 WRX
but when we changed them for bosch ones with
spoiler, they work fine at 70+ but JUST float
across MY field of vision and everywhere else
is ok even same place on passenger side http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

Dave T-S 09 November 2000 01:11 PM

mmason
Even on the fastest speed, my wipers only sweep the screen about every one second. How do you get yours to go at 100MPH - do your wipers have the VF23 fitted? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Stef 09 November 2000 06:37 PM

Perhaps you should all just drive slower in the rain? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Stef.

mattski 09 November 2000 06:46 PM

yeh, never thought of that ;o)

CRAFT 10 November 2000 08:11 AM

Sensible STEF strikes again http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

TRIGGER 10 November 2000 08:47 AM

What's happened to Stef ? Can we have the real Stef back please ?

Stef 10 November 2000 02:15 PM

Come on guys, I'm a committee member now don't forget, so safe driving is to be encouraged at all times http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif .

Stef.

TRIGGER 10 November 2000 03:43 PM

We'll see on Sunday...

mmason 10 November 2000 11:52 PM

Hey I was talking about on the track......

RonaldoH 11 November 2000 01:03 AM

At 100mph the product named Rain-X from your local Halfords stores is fantastic. Its especially good if given 2-3 coats in winter http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Rain simply runs off the screen. Buy some, its tremendous.

Scooby Doc 11 November 2000 10:58 AM

I can't believe that here we are - the chosen few (thousand) with Scooby Doos going on about our windscreen wipers.

Whose this guy (or gal to be pc) mmason. Are you that guy from the Floyd?

Anyhow I have a MY00 with the aforementioned spoiler on the drivers side and we clocked an indicated 150 on the autobahn (kept good pace in front of the new M5 - have you heard the sound that this makes???? - wipers were dancing around like B Speirs and that was without them on.

I never ever, with all the things to upgrade on the Scooby Doo would I ever have thought about the windscreen wipers. PIAA wipers - wow -where do I get a pair?

Martin

CharliePsycho 11 November 2000 06:57 PM

Get new wiper blades and use a good washer additive.

I have a P1 and have no prob at 120+ with the wipers... The drivers side has a little spoiler on.

Bosch do a complete wiper with a spoiler integrated into the blade which is pretty good, I used to have one on my last car.

Floyd 11 November 2000 07:36 PM

Stef

You've got an interesting definition of safe driving in the rain http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

I can tell you that at 90+ on a wet and windy B road behind you stef, with shed loads of leaves and grit being tossed at your windscreen is certainly an 'experience' http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Only kidding - it was a real hoot and I gotta do it again, perhaps you could follow me next time http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Agree with the Rain-X comment. Freshly applied and kept clean, rain just fly off the screen, the faster the merrier, and we do have real heavy downpours aroud here. Almost made the wipers redundant. Only downside is got to apply consistently and regularly, or else it streaks terribly.
