How long do the batteries last?

Franko 21 October 2003 11:02 PM

with it being winter i doubt the batteries would last very long outside... good idea though..

T5NYW 21 October 2003 11:54 PM

it might be a radical view but, mine is, 'It's insurured' let it go  if some scumbag whats to nick it let them take it it's only a bit of tin ;)

I don't want to confront the thugs because
A) I'd get very upset and wan't to do a 'Tony Martin' on them

B) peeps get hurt chasing their Pride 'n' joy

C) they might trash it, and would you want it back ;)

IMHO

Tony

That's good unless like me the worth of your car is less than the finance owing, without GAP :p ;)

I'll continue taking precautions methinks...

I had a garage in a block that served a double block of maisonettes.I rigged up a mains feed to it & ran the baby monitor off it plus a PIR floodlight.

It worked so well you could hear the neighbours rowing as they parked up after a night out.It even picked up a cat on the asbestos(equivalent) roof.

Mine had a visual display as well so if you wanted to mute the sound you could.

My thinking was:-

1)I would hear the sound of the door(up & over)being forced thus alerting me about the thief but not alerting them to me.

2)The flood light would light up the scene which I could observe from my upstairs window.

3)I could monitor/record any verbal from the perps.(evidence for later)& it would give me somethng to listen to while I waited the customary 2-3 hours for the cavalry to turn up.(on a good night)

4)This negates the need to don dressing gown & slippers, grab poker/golf club/lump of wood etc & leg it outside to meet your maker.

It wont stop the car/motor bike etc from going but it might just give some evidence that could help find the thief.

If you press the intercom button & growl you could really put the $hit up them as well.:D

what would scooby do 22 October 2003 08:36 AM

A £20 garage alarm will also help if your cars garaged of-course

:D

bits'n'pieces 22 October 2003 10:22 AM

of course..... If the mains feed was accidentally shorted through the garage door handle..... ok shut it paul say no more you sadistic person.

Blobster 22 October 2003 10:48 AM

How about one of those retractable security posts?

Just remember to lower it before driving off  unlike me last week .

Blobster :(

My PIR approach light has a wireless radio transmitter which emits a chime (24/7, light or dark) from a unit plugged into any free mains socket (£30 from B&Q). Add to that the Cat1, Tracker, Disklock and steel post and hopefully they'll look for an easier target.

Ru$$Rip 22 October 2003 09:09 PM

I have a wireless camera that scans the driveway. It works off PIR and body heat. When it detects either of the afore mentioned (Up to 10 meters) it fires up a small monitor by my bedside giving a laud audible beep and full sound and vision. I have it on full volume so it will wake me up if it fires up in the night. Full system was 50 quid from QVC!! :D

Jesus,

If we believed everything we read:

Our cars would have:

1) Cat 1 alarm (with battery back up)
2) Cat 2 immobiliser (probably a couple)
3) Deadlocks on the doors
4) Cat 3 locking/hardware detterant (Gearbox & steering wheel lock)
5) Anti car jacking device
6) Smashproof film on the windows
7) De-locked doors and boot
8) Some sort of tracking device
9) Alarm linked paging device
10) Interior dry ice/smoke generator (so they can't see after they've broken in)
11) Alarm linked to mobile phone to enable triangulation
12) Plugged in to the nearest electricity point!

The car would be parked:

1) In an alarmed garage (linked to house alarm with direct connection to the Police station)
2) Behind a post
3) In a locked garage with bolts and deadlocks
4) Next to where the dogs sleep
5) Within easy reach from your bedroom and your baseball bat
6) Within range of your baby monitor
7) Within site of your CCTV camera linked to your video
8) By a floodlight that goes on when someone in the next town moves!
9) Topped off with razor wire
10) and patroling security guards

When you go out:

1) You wouldn't as you are too paranoid about car thefts, thefts from cars, car jacking, vandalism, car parking dents, rasing insurance with lose of no clamis bonus, the price of petrol, the octane rating of petrol, the car overboosting, the car underboosting, the prices at the dealer, getting ripped off by dodgy garages, people following you home, people getting your number plate & finding your address, leaving your car keys anywhere than in your hand, raced at traffic lights, speed cameras, traffic police, normal police, people who are impersonating the police, getting stopped, going over 30mph, going under 70mph, the residuals of your car, how good the classic is, how ugly the M01/02 are, unsure about MY03, should you buy an import, should you buy a UK, should you consider Euro, how does this effect your life, how does this effect your social standing, will the clients think I'm a wideboy, should I leave the IT industry, should I go into the IT industry, does it look like a Ford, will my partner/girlfriend/wife like it, does it look like I'm crusing for schoolgirls, should I go to a cruise & what will people think, should I wave, should I flash my lights, should I wave and flash my lights, why don't people wave back, am I invisible, am I quicker than the Ferrari/Porsche/any supercar I've just raced, should I use octane booster, what about Optimax, will BP Ultimate really be that, who should map my car, should I mod it, should it stay standard, should I join the SIDC, should I go to meets, who should I insure with ...... SOD IT, I'll just stay in and read Scoobynet instead!!! ;)
