93WRX - First off, thanx to Dyney & Maffa 4 finding these 4 me, especially as my footwell was full of crap.
Now that I have them, what 2 do next? I know they refer to MAF sensor & idle air solenoid. What does the latter do? Everything I've read about MAF failure/malfunction refers to poor/erratic idling but I don't have this. As a starter, if I disconnect them - engine running - & nothing alters, does this indicate they are u/s?
I've looked up diagnostic procedures but I don't understand where to access the ECM terminals, etc., referred to. I live between Brighton and Crawley - anyone live nearby who could show me how to get to above terminals?
All advice gratefully received, although I feel there will still be a way to go B4 all is well. I almost wish I'd kept my Kwak.

Reset the ecu to clear the codes.. drive it and see if they reoccur..

could be old codes from years ago..

Obviously they there is a reason you checked the history so perhaps the check engine light has been coming on??

Thanx JGM. This thread is a follow-up to one from a few weeks ago - which led me to the West Sussex meet where Maffa & Dyney checked my error codes. Car always starts, idles well, etc. 93WRX with TSL centre section and b/b, K&N & HKS SQV dump-valve. The CEL comes on sometimes - can be for a few moments or for several minutes, sometimes seems to come on after a bump in the road, but sometimes doesn't come on all day. The car runs and boosts erratically - not all the time and not apparently with regard to whether or not the CEL is illuminated. Bought the car (c.60k miles)as a replacement for a bike, when I became a grandad. I was weaned on Minors, MK1 Escorts and the like, being reasonably competent with stuff like that, so the Scooby is a bit daunting 'cos I don't really understand much about the fuelling, etc. I think I'll need to check the plugs and coil packs, too, but thought I needed to start from the error codes. I can't afford to just renew MAF etc. if I can fettle in some way. Any other ideas?
Sad.

If it's giving a CEL after going over bumps, I'd be inclined to try an "Earthing mod". In other words - add some more earth wires!
Also, look for loose connections.

There's numerous threads about how to do this and what wire to use etc. it shouldn't cost you much more than £5.

Basically, add a thick earth wire from the battery to the block, then to the body (I used the LH strut top) and then to the ECU. (You'll need to dig out an ECU wiring diagram for that, but I expect Dyney can help find one if I can't ;))

Best of luck. Intermittant faults are the pits!

I was thinking exactly the same as Dnb whilst reading your reply..

The standard earthing is crap..

Especially when the car is getting on a bit! :)

I took some battery terminal cables bought from Halfords..

Connected battery negative to passenger strut top, inlet manifold, and inlet manifold to drivers strut top.

Also did neg battery terminal to gearbox as I broke the standard earth to that when I dropped the box out.. :) doh..

Can do to ECU body also..

JGM :)
