Ok here goes..

I currently have 2 desktop pcs and a laptop all connected to a belkin normal cabled router which in turn is connected to my ntl cable modem. Now i would like to make the laptop wireless while keeping the other 2 pcs wired as normal. Is there any way to do this without changing my router to a wireless one?

Hello

You can buy another router and plug it into your existing one or buy two wireless network cards (PCMCIA for the laptap and another for one of your desktops) and use Internet connection sharing.

Get an Access Point, these are well cheap and are basically hubs for wirelss networks, plug this directly into your router. Get a PCMCIA wireless network card for the notebook.

This configuration is pretty much idiot's stuff to setup these days.

After doing this you'll find your network identical in use to what you have at the moment with the advantage that the notebook is mobile.

Also look for g standard wireless as these are now offereing connection speeds of 54mb/s as opposed to 11mb/s.

There have been lots of threads on wireless in the last week, so it is well worth having a gander.

Yup that's the little bu99er. We got one of these :)

If you look around you can often find bundles that include a PCMCIA wireless card for free. Though you may find this a little tricker to get as a g standard.

I wouldn't go for his little brother though (the ME102 11mb/s) we have had a fair bit of trouble with these.

cool stuff :) does the access point just plug into the router via ethernet cable.. just as if it was the cable direct from the computer which was conncting to the router?

Yup :p

Once it's in it'll just work like any ole hub really, but wireless.

Obviously they can be programmed for security etc if rqd
