Hello!

My MY98 Impreza (42.000Km) started making a rattling noise when I climb the revs! It seems to be coming from the turbo metalic heat cover... maybe it is becoming loose... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Has anyone experienced this??

I have heard that the cover often cracks, because of the heat.

If you fit a new one put in some spacers (washers or something) so that the shield is as far away from the Turbo as possible.

Guys,

As far as I remember, the heat shield that most often tends to fail isn't the turbo cover... it's one of the ones on the underside of the engine bay which is exposed to and can be damaged by cold rainwater from the road.

It may be worth waiting for the engine to cool completely and then check the bolts holding said turbo cover are all still tight... there are 4 to check, (from view facing engine) one low down on the left, one high up at the back and two on the right.

Gustavo,
I also have a cracked heat shield. Is it more noticeable between 3-4k revs ? My dealer told me that this is a common fault and nothing to worry about, i'm going to have it fixed on my next service.
