My car is a 96uk turbo with prodrive performance consisting of replacement ecu Ramair performance filter etc etc, whaddya all reckon? Am i wasting my money?Or do you think an induction kit will make much of a difference!Advice please! cheers. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Go for it.

I found pick up/acceleration much smoother, and the engine revved better past 5000.

Not sure about WHICH kit to get though, the Blitz is around £150+ which is lots more than a K&N..

But def. get one

GavinP 25 May 2000 12:45 PM

Pipercross is another option - and about the same price as K&N.

They do make a lot more noise so don't throw away the old filter assembly - you may not like it !

Thanks

Gavin

Had a K&N 57i kit fitted on my MY98.
It was really very noisy, in the beginning I liked it, but then after 3-4 months, I couldn't hear anymore......
Fitted a K&N panel filter and cold air duct (from brake duct to air filter ~50£) and the power is still the same but with less noise.
I say: Induction kit: try it, but don't buy a too expensive one (as Blitz), K&N 57i gives same horsepower and is a lot cheaper!
ask STEF ;-)

I - as you know Soula - put a Blitz induction kit on last year on the strength of advice from PE.

Yes - you get a noise :-) Kaaattiiissshhh
Yes - it looks cool - it you lift the bonnet up
Yes - its bloody expensive...
Mmmm - give more power..dubious
Mmmm - is good at filtering air....
Yes - better throttle response and turbo spin up
Yes - makes the car run like a dog on low revs at cold - why??? - I don't know

Still not convinced you would need one since Ram Air is very good and was tuned by Prodrive

Can anybody throw any technical light for why Soula should change to air induction when her car has been modified by Prodrive???? Goes fast enough at the moment...albeit with lots of turbo lag :-)

cheers

Moray, whats this about the blitz causing iffy running, when cold....
I've a My00 and was going to get one will it be o.k.?

Blade,

What's this about what's this about cold running problems... ? I haven't had any filter related cold running problems on my car.

I have heard that cars with hotfilm MAF sensors, such as yours, may suffer sensor failure due to vibration, if you don't insulate the sensor well enough. This is a problem if you are running an ecu that uses the sensor... link/motec don't need to... Apparently, IIRC the HKS filter pops up quite a bit in stories of MAF failure cases...

Of course, Sourob is only thinking of fitting a cone filter to reduce the likelyhood of being pulled over by the police on a regular basis... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I noticed a small drop in power at really low revs after I installed the Blitz filter, but the noise and increase in power above 5000 more than make up for this.

Fit One.... Today! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

The running like a dog when cold may be its due to Icing ???

I used to have twin 50 Carbs on an old car years ago and in the winter with no warm air near the carbs they would ice causing bad running, or like the time on the A3 flat out the carbs iced up and froze open, that was fun.

MorayMackenzie 31 May 2000 11:42 AM

BladeRnnr,

Where did you hear about the cold running problems from? Was it from someone who sells another brand of filter?

Blitz.....very nice.

Engine felt more responsive after fitting.
no overall power gain, BHP and LB up a little between 2250 and 3500RPM.

Does anyone know if fitting the blitz would affect SouRob's prodrive setup?

Prodrive did set the car up with the RAMAIR filter - I don't think getting a blitz would really make much difference to her car....just the noise a whale makes when mating :-)

cheers
