I have recently had air-con fitted to my My00 and when it switches on it'clunks'and makes a noise like a kettle boiling for 20 seconds then it goes quiet for 20 seconds and then it does it again. Does anyone know if this is normal or should I have the dealer check it out?

Hmmm, my aircon doesnt do that ? I would say get it checked out.

mine makes the same noises so does the other halfs car

The only real noises you should get from the aircon are the fan starting and stopping, i have a SS back box so cant really hear those noises when running http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif lift the bonnet with the aircon on and look to see if the fan is running like that ???

Yeah, I had aircon fitted to my MY00 a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed it makes an awful racket. Seems to be the compressor makes the noise, but it sounds as if its coming from uder the dashboard, rather then in the engine. Getting a service tomorrow, so might ask then.

Wanted to keep the aircon on low, but the racket the compressor makes really distracts, so its a blast of ice for a few mins, then off completely! And I expected peace and quiet for a grand!!

I get a very high pitched whine when engine not under load, goes when moving again. Sounds like turbo but annoying not sweet http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Well, had the aircon checked by the dealer who says its normal. Still pretty naff though, having a kettle in the car!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I will have a go at the dealer when I get my 15k service in a few weeks time.

Sounds like the bearings have gone. Call a car Air Con Specialist to have a look. I had a Cavalier with the same problem.

Hope this helps
