I'm using bog standard 95ron unleaded in my MY00 Scoob at the mo. If I switched to super-plus unleaded - would I see any performance difference? (Especially one worth 5p a litre). Would the ECU need resetting or would it realise I'm using the expensive stuff?

APJ - try using the search function! I think you'll find a lot of info there.

Just type in 'octane' and you'll get it all!

Remember the 'phrase high octane action' (implying something explosive or really wild) is a bit of a mis-interpretation as higher octane fuel is LESS explosive... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif I'm sure I've heard Murray Walker use that one??!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

FYI - My MY00 UK model has only ever had Super in it from new as that is what it says on the filler cap and the dealer(holland) told me (and its in my Manual as well).

It is not only about power though - engine wear is an issue also and MPG too.

As for the cost of SUL!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

I read somewhere that the reason the label on the fuel filler says to use super is that in some countries the standard unleaded is a very low RON. However in the UK normal unleaded should be fine for standard cars, but you can use super if you like.

I think that you should get your ECU reset or else you will not get the full benifit from the super, the management system samples every time you start the engine and uses the average results.

All UK spec cars can be run on 95 RON unleaded with no problems whatsoever, only the STi's need super to prevent expensive engine problems. My MY99 has been run on 95RON and i havent had a problem with the engine in 24000 miles.

It says Super on the cap because in some countries 95 ron is labelled as Super.

My old MY98 did 56K on 95RON without any problems. I am using 95RON with my MY00 which has the PPP ECU. Ian's comments about the filler flap label are correct.

Cheers folks. I trawled thru the previous posts on petrol . . so I reckon I'll test it with a couple of tankfuls of SUL just to see if theres any difference. Appears the jury is still out on whether the ECU will adjust pretty sharpish to the new octane, or whether it stores an average of pervious readings. Has anyone got the definitive answer?

Takes on average 50 miles fro the ECU to relearn, you will only notice it running a little smoother it wont be massivley faster

Ok, cheers Ian, best go do some miles then!!
