Out of the door at 7:30 this morning, into the garage to take the Scoob out after a week without use and the battery was flat! Only 4000 miles on the clock. Just thought I'd let those new owners know as I certainly wasn't expecting that! Breakdown got it going again and I legged it the dealers who changed it for a VATRA. Anyone else had problems?
Just off to buy a mini charger for next time.

Quite a few people have - if you search for 'sti8 battery' you'll see what I mean.

yes.. but I have a maintainer charger on it now as I dont use it that often.... told the dealers about it, but they checked it after a night of charging, so they said it was fine... typical :D

Go mine on a friday went on holiday on sat for 2weeks. Came back and it started first time. WRX 03

seems they have had a "bad batch" of batteries fitted at the factory, so once the dealer has fitted a new one, they are ok afterwards, think the battery man in japan is about to committ "hari Kiri" !!

mutant_matt 17 October 2003 05:16 PM

I don't think it's a case of a bad batch. The batteries Subaru use have always been cheap and so a lot of them fail. It's not any particular MY.

The reason the replacements don't fail is because usually, the dealers replace them with Varta batteries which are of a higher quality.

Matt :)

the reason is they were never disconnected before being shipped over then sat at the docks for 6 months where they went flat. and were started to ship out to the dealers which only held a nominal charge so after any period of time with out running they went flat quite quick.
well that is what we were told from i.m training dept on monday they do now disconnect the battery before shipping.

Returned from 2 weeks hols to find mine flat as a fart. Got it going with some jump leads and took it for a 30 min run, pulled on drive and still totally flat.

Pleased it wasn't only me :).

also for those that have 3 wires in the plug on the alternator they only get charged by the alternator when the battery voltage goes below 12v above this and the ecu switches the alt off

left mine for two weeks just recently ,started first time

I went on holiday for 5 weeks in the spring, came back and the STi8 started first time! No battery problems for me!

Maybe its all the extra juice that the Cat1 alarm and Sat tracker needs?

scoobyboy 19 October 2003 07:58 PM

told you all why earlier
