I was just wondering what the optimum RPM to have the shift light indicationg at is?
I haven't read the manual yet but I believe you can adjust it to suit? What RPM is your set at and how do you find it? Cheers |
I have a SPA Shift light installed im my version 2 555 Edition - I used to have it set 6000 but found I was changing at around 6500 - 7000 (ahem bit slow off the mark) so I changed it to 5500 - seems much more torquey now and is safer my engine...

I've got a MY99 turbo, using SECS monitor running a Defi shift-light.
Got mine set to 5500rpm for decent everyday driving. Enough power, and some engine/drivetrain protection. However, I'm thinking about using it to warn me when I'm using Boost (just via rpm), and that'll help me improve MPG on my daily commute... |
4000 rpm.
Works out about 100 mph in 6th which is ideal for motorway cruising. |
Currently set to 6K rpm, but going to change it 5.5K I think as by the time I react I'm very near 7K.. getting old...
|
lol @ DrEvil...
I know exactly what you mean.... I had mine set to 5,800 and tried it out. By the time I actually changed up I was nearing 6,500-7,000 revs....... 5.5 might be a good compromise providing my slow reaction times are consistent! lol |

Mines set at 5500 too. Gives you most of the power without getting too near the rev limiter.
|
Oh yeah, you guys using the light and bleep or just light?
I can't help thinking that the audible bleep will give me a "target" that I need to keep hitting! lol Think I might settle for just the light..... maybe save some fuel, and my engine! :D |
6400 - light and bleep....
Don't take your eyes off the road, just listen for the beep (above the roar!) Shades |
Mine's currently set at 6700 as I do like to rev! Agree its more fun lower down the rev range as it makes the car feel more frantic:) IMHO Not much point in setting over 7K as the power has started to tail off by then!
To set it turn the toggle switch to left of tacho (Handbrake must be on I think) to left to set limit down or to the right to raise the limit. When limit accepted it will flash ON or blank if off, rotate swith to select and it will bleep. Then no need to ever look at the tacho again:D |
6k
Had a nasty miss-hap @7k when I got third,, sloppy gear shift... Had it sorted now... won't do that again just managed to dip the clutch but needle was on loud side of 8... |
got mine set at 5500 by the time u hear the bleep and change up it's nearly 6000 anyway.
|
a friend of mine has hist set at 6500... he only hears it once then.... in 1st :D
|
Set to 7000rpm but I usually change up before it comes on. I just use it as a warning for the times when your so engrossed in your driving you forget to change up! :D
With quickshift, its no problem to change up before 7500 rev limit! |
7K here too. Haven't seen/heard it yet. Not trying hard enough! ;)
|
"With quickshift, its no problem to change up before 7500 rev limit!"
Is the STi 8 redline 7500? Or the revlimiter? I have the UK STi engine and the rev limiter kicks in at 8k rpm. |
Ive switched mine off.
|
Turned it off now because i can tell by the engine note when to slap it in to the next cog, can get bang on 7000rpm albeit the power tails off at 6500rpm,
I'd say set it 6500rpm if you need it and make sure you get the change in at around 6500 and 7000, you'll be in the red if your not quick, |

That's weird. Would PPP change the rev limit? I thought I read in Sport Compact Car that the UK STi Version 7 had a 7750rpm redline.
|
Same as BM; concentrating too much on everything getting close when high revs but it seems very much higher in my JDM than it used to be in the Uk Sti- I reckon 9000 revs can't see needle just little red light. Passengers also seem reluctant to give this information :-)
