I pulled out of a junction onto the A1 and floored it up through the gears. There was a wet substances on part of the road and it appeared to be water from the nearby construction of the dualled part of the A1 by Haddington. Apparently is was not water  Just after passing through it I changed into 3rd and all four wheels let rip :D At first the slip was so smooth I didn't notice until the car started to drift sideways and towards the other side of the road  A quick correction and it was all sorted :) Kinda weird though to have wheelspin in a scooby at 60-odd mph!! I assume it was oil or another fuel of some kind.

Probably diesel.. did you call the police mate? Stuff like that kills bikers by the dozen

LG John 16 October 2003 01:43 PM

Good point - I never thought of that. Should I just call the local police station?

ian_sadler 16 October 2003 01:44 PM

I think that would be a good idea.

 I always call the police when I see stuff like that because it's so dangerous to the village peeps on bikes ;)

Paul :)

Richard Askew 16 October 2003 02:14 PM

Kenny - wot did they say?

LG John 16 October 2003 04:23 PM

Said they would send some boys out to investigate the 'spill' and take appropriate action.

imlach 16 October 2003 10:36 PM

My workmate's bruv is a cop (now CID) but was a Lothian & Borders traffic cop a few years back.

While driving back from East Lothian, he managed to lose it on an diesel spill coming off the roundabout just outside Macmerry....he was there attending an accident caused by the same spill...

He got ribbed for it for weeks....bit of damage to the Volvo too :-(

harrymonk 16 October 2003 10:39 PM

Boro 16 October 2003 11:11 PM

Unless theyre behind you with blue lights flashing behind the grill

talizman 16 October 2003 11:20 PM

You could call the police, or you could just report it to the roads dept.

What the police would do is, attend and confirm that its diesel etc and then they call the roads dept! lol

The only benefit would be that they could temporarily close the road until the Roads arrive with their bags of sand/salt.
