My windscreen wiper blades have just started to go.
2 Questions 1. Are these supposed to be replace on any service ? 2. What should I replace them with any suggestions as to what is the best product available. Many Thanks Mark |
Bosch ones are good in my opinion.
As far as I'm aware these are consumable items and you would be charged for replacements from your dealer. Its just not worth having your dealer fit them as they will charge you more than just going into Halfords and buying a set yourself, these are a dead easy "car park" fit. As an interesting asside on average UK drivers replace their wipers every 2 years, and German drivers every 6 months! Apparantly we replace our wipers the least regularly in Europe |
Do most people fit new blades or just refills?
I've found better results from changing the whole blade i.e. not just the rubber and its backing. I tend to change my blades every year. |
I've just fitted 'Bosch Twins' to my car.
£17 from Halfords. They are complete blades, not refills, as there are no decent refills available. The difference is staggering, they are superb. Highly recommended. Stef. |
Thanks all
Looks like I will be getting some new Bosch Blades ! |
My Subaru dealer charged me £18 for one wiper! Fitting was FREE?
If only I have looked at the bill then and there, I would have asked for it to be removed. From past experience BOSCH provide the cleanest and quietest wipe. |
I didn't like to Bosch blades from Halfords - there's no metal between the blade rubber and the rest of the blade which meant that I ended up with (cleaner) streaks on the screen at the blade pressure points. Changed to Halfords own make (which have a piece of metal inserted) and they were OK for the first couple of months or so but have now started to show similar signs of streaks at the pressure points. IMHO, the Halfords blades are pretty cheap quality, and much inferior to the ones that my dealer fits. So far, I've got what I've paid for ....

The Bosch Twins I have DO have this metal runner, as well as a spoiler on the drivers side.
Silent and very effective. Stef. |
Thanks Stef, I'll give them a try.

PAUL WILSON....If they are such an "easy" fit, why are yours on upside down? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I agree Bosch are the best wipers
Keep cleaning the glass though! - If you start to get rubber on the screen try using Holts Mixra or if all else fails use a cloth dipped in meths.- Your wipers will last longer and work better IMHO Does anyone know how to avoid getting all the stuff out of the exhaust on the back window of a five door? (Apart from buying a four door) Chris |
Tim,
I said they were easy, I didn't say I was able to do it right http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Anyway fixed now and took all of 30 seconds. And they don't tell you which way up to fit the spoiler blade in the instructions, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif Just off to do a bit of vehicle aerodymaics revision now http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
