just got a Origin B2 through the group buy here , now I assume as this is GPS based then the speeds it displays would be accurate . with this in mind it would appear that my WRX ( uk MY01 bugeye ) speedo is very innacurate as it shows about 8% higher than the Origin

The mileage reading from the speedo and the origin are out by the same , in the past I thought thst this might be the case as when I got the Scooby my trip to work suddenly became 4 miles further and I dont think anyone moved the office :D

Has anyone else ever noticed similar ?

with this in mind I suppose it means that my true fuel consumption is also 8% less than I thought it was :eek:

Got the Origin Blue i and my speedo (MR03) is spot on at 100mph and over by approx 1mph at 30-60mph. I suspect Origin are accurate as I ran mine in a previous car which also seemed spot on at all speeds (Corrado Storm).

Are you running standard wheels - maybe your car was designed for 16" and they fitted 17". If in doubt, put the unit in a mates car and if it's still out by 8% call them and ask for a replacement.

One last thing to check, make sure the GPS antenna isn't next to any magnets (eg speakers) as this can screw it up.

I use a Road Angel on my 03 and find the speedo overeads the RA by 7-10%, depending on speed.

Not to much of a problem as long as you know.

Your speedo is in spec., which is -0% -0MPH to +10% +2MPH. so at 100MPH, it can read anywhere between 100MPH and 112MPH, and is within permitted tolerances. As the speedo is never allowed to under-read, all manufacturers deliberately make them over-read by around 5%, this allows for rolling radius of new/old tyres, tolerances in the speedo itself etc.

However, I'm surprised your odometer is so far out, does the car have standard wheels/tyres? Are the tyres approaching the end of their life?

I have an STi bug-eye with Origin Blue i, same accuracy as jmk - mines spot on at 100mph and above, +/- 1mph lower than that.

Apparently an STi 7 has a top speed of 148, going by GPS mines done 153 - does GPS lie? (It was on the flat, not a hill!)

I posted a few days ago about speedo inaccuracy on my 1997 car, UK bog standard Turbo. I've checked it with a digital speedo on a rear wheel, and at 80, it reads 88...
Now I use the rev counter, which is much more accurate, a calculated 80 should be 3565 rpm. In fact, possibly because of tyre expansion or rev counter inaccuracy, it's 3510.

Still have standard wheels on and tyres are about 30% worn , doesnt really bother me I was just wondering if it was normal , the one thing it does explain is the amount of close shaves I have had with scamera vans where I was worried I might have had a ticket coming and then heard nothing :D

You also have to bear in mind that most (not all - beware) police forces are still following the generally accepted guidelines for speed camera thresholds, which is also +10% +2MPH. This means that (for argument's sake) you could would only be nicked for doing a real 68 in a 60 zone (bad luck to the guy who posted recently, having been done for 67 in a 60 - it happens), to do 68 in your car, the speedo would have to show more than 73, which explains why most people maintan they can always get away with 10MPH over the limit, and not get nicked. I wouldn't rely on it though, especially as some police forces are introducing zero tolerance thresholds with laser traps (i.e. you get done for 61 on a 60).

Briefly, my MY02 WRX over-reads by about 10% all through the speed range, according to my GPS navigator package..... :(
