I am unable to lock the steering wheel of my MY99 anybody else had the problem. How much lock do you need to apply after removing the key? Should it lock immediatley?

For what it's worth, I've got the same troubles on my MY00...

My MY96 needs to have the steering wheel at about 90 deg to the straight ahead to lock. I think I remember someone posting that quite a few Scoobies have the mechanism set wrongly from the factory. Sounds like a case of getting Subarau to fix it at the next service - I just haven't remembered yet.

I have the opposite.
I have trouble getting the steering lock off. This is particularly embarrasing when you finally get it unlocked and the imobiliser has cut in. I just hope a car thief has the same trouble. Paul Habgood |
Bit of advice......
....turn the steering wheel 90 degrees clockwise BEFORE you turn the engine off. This enables the lock to engage with only a small movement of the wheel afterwards, and puts it under less pressure, making it easier to disengage afterwards. Try it and see. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Stef. |
You really need to turn the wheel to engage it. Try when your pulling up to leave the wheels at a slight angle- then when the keys are out- you should be able to apply opposite lock to bring the wheels straight - I know this isnt the best solution and damages the tyres but its the only practical way of ensuring the lock is engaged.
