Hi All

Can anyone help with this....?
At idle my car (WRX STiv4) feels very lumpy - the revs rise & fall (even fully warmed-up) & the car shakes - when driving it isn't very smooth at all (very noticable on changing down)
I have a RamAir & Scoobysport bb
Could it be the over oiling RamAir issue contaminating the air flow sensor?
Would this affect the car in this way & whats the solution (would a new filter sort it or do I have to change the sensor now)

Any help appreciated.

I've heard very bad things said about oil contaminating the MAF sensor - who sold you an oiled filter in the first place?

I've also heard that the MY00 UK Turbo doesn't have this sensor - does anyone know whether that's true, and if so, whether that opens up the choice of air filters?

A Subaru Dealer supplied & fitted it (before I owned the car)
My understanding is that the 00MY cars have a different type of sensor in there but not sure of the technicalities...

I think the UK cars share the same MAF sensors as the Imports....?
Hence the UK cars 98MY has the same sensor as the Imported WRX STiV4's (MY98) I think...
If this gets covered in oil (from a RamAir filter) does it produce the above problem ?
The sensor was changed on the 00MY UK cars & Imports)

Back to the mulled wine methinks.....hic!

I was under the impression that, at least for the sti 3, the sti has a different (read larger) maf sensor unit to the same year's uk model.

If the revs rise and fall in a consistent and smooth manner and the car is not brilliant to drive - the ECU may have gone into safe MAP mode as it is getting bum readings from one of it's sensors.

Step one is to carry out a diagnostic this will quickly tell you which circuit is at fault. In this topic read 'Trouble Code He he he'. This will tell you how to do the diagnostic and should be a start point for fixing your car.

If it is the MAF/AFM circuit then try cleaning the hot wire with brake cleaner on a Q-tip - not ideal, but safer than freons!

Also from my own experience, check for the integrity of all connections - anything wired into the ECU loom? - if so check it carefully.
