Can scooby 17" alloys run on 205/40/17 or does it have to be 215/40/17, because i have noticed there is a big difference in price of the tyres between the 2. Also is there a problem with the 205/40/17 as it is so cheap and the 205/45/17 is very expensive with the 215/40/17 in between the 2. Crikey lot of numbers there:confused: perhaps not a quick question:D

Cheers James.

I'd say 205/40/17 is too narrow.

215/40/17's on the classics are fine

hope that helps.

I have got 215/40/17 on now which are fine i was just wondering if it was possible to put on a 205/40/17 instead as they are a fair bit cheaper. I don't see them being too narrow IMHO as they come standard with 205s on anyway.

Its to do with the rolling circumference of the wheel, a 205/40/17 is quite different to the 205/50/16 you probably have on your car. the 205/45/17 is the Prodrive specified match for a 17 inch wheel (also check the rating on the tyre, ie the weight rating :- 84 etc) as this is also important.
The 215/40/17 will still leave you with quite a margin out on the speedo (upto 4% out, ie 96mph at a rated 100mph but this also effects your mileage on your speedo) but better than the 205/40/17 which would be considerably more.

Tony - the speedo is well out with the standard 17" 215 - 45's on my WRX already. I have Road Angel which give speed read out by Sat Nav which I believe to be 100% accurate although slightly delayed, and it's about 10% out throughout the speed range. (that is Indicated 110mph is actually only 100mph) I've found this to be pretty common, my audi Quattro was about 8% out the same way.
