In the light of continuing developments in the Phase 1 Conversion arena and other ECU products, I think it would really help people still investigating the whole tuning arena if people with these different conversions could let us know a little about their cars.

Please note that this is not a witch hunt etc. just an attempt to collate the information. It is just as much an opportunity for those of you who love your conversions to tell us as for those of you who don't! Let us know about your experiences [B]GOOD & BAD[B]!

Please supply, if possible, the following details. Feel free to provide performance gains (in terms of +bhp & torque), but what we're interested in mainly is reliability. This is not the place to debate the relative merits of each system - please discuss that on another thread. It would also help if people could keep purely to the facts of the case without venturing opinions so that we can keep speculation and conjecture at bay...


If we get enough postings, I'll stick it on a web page for easier reference. Also, if there are any other details that would be useful that I've left off - please let me know.

OK I'll start the ball rolling, but remember, Paul Strong's site contains lots of stats on modified cars, but obviously doesn't address any problems experienced.

ECU Modification: PE phase 1 conv
Other Modifications: SS Backbox - K&N filter
Year and Model of Car: UK MY97 Turbo
Date of Conversion: 1/10/99
Mileage at Conversion: 28K
Mileage Now: 29.5K
Description of Problems: Overboost
Have all problems been rectified?: remap 17/11/99 done 180 miles - no probs so far.

ECU Modification: PE phase 1
Other Modifications: Some weird Jap back box
Year and Model of Car: 96 STi 2
Date of Conversion: August 99
Mileage at Conversion: 10000 ish
Mileage Now: 17000
Description of Problems: on motorway car hesitated on boost, rev counter to 0, power came back, problem got worse over 3-5 miles.
Problem apparantly was water ingress into multi connector next to battery, problem sorted by PE small charge, some "lost" with brake pad fitting at the same time. Problem ocurred 2 weeks after fitting of PE phase 1 after a very hard fortnight in Wales

God this is sounding like a Grig advert! LOL

Oh bloody hell I hope soon, otherwise you will all be bored and be worryijng (justifiably or not http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif )about what ever tuner has cracked the phase 2 engine !

ECU Modification: PE Phase I
Other Modifications:T75 Downpipe & centre section (de-cated). SS Backbox. K/N Filter.
Year and Model of Car: UK MY98
Date of Conversion: 12/3/99
Mileage at Conversion: 9,000
Mileage Now: 16,000
Description of Problems: 8/11/99 Had car re-mapped for 95 Ron as weather got colder
boost increased until I got Overboost @ 20 lbs. PE reduced boost to 18lbs.
Have all problems been rectified?: Yes
Other Comments: 275 bhp & 276 ft/lbs Torque. on 95 Ron. Had no problems for 8 months and
don’t expect anymore. Great conversion, I love it.
