ive just gone to take my wheels off so i can paint my calipers and ive snapped one of the nuts off :(,leaving me with none of the threaded bolt showing to put another nut on....i just wondered if anybody has had this happen or has heard of it happening to anyone else,and how bigger job it is to have it sorted out,also are they attached to the brake disk or anything or can it be repaired without affecting the disks etc..any advice appriciated.

its a spline-headed stud that fits in from the back of the hub........fairly straight forward to change if you have a little mechanical knowledge.....front or rear hub??

You may not get this done under warranty.. I just screwed up a locking wheel nut on mine last week ( but blamed it on a tyre company :D )and the local dealer had to chisel this off and replace all 4 locking wheel nuts..cost me £100 quid! :( A bit miffed especially when it was the locking nut that lost its pins and this was supplied with the car.

Also, the fact that you were doing this yourself may go against you.

wot about if the last time the wheel was taken off it was by subaru when they serviced it 2mths ago?

and surely taking a wheel off due to a puncture ;) can't go against me?

yeah I also hinted at this as my car had a recent 45k service...seemed to fall on deaf ears though or maybe i was a bit too subtle.

The dealers seem to be getting tighter by the month from point of view and im pretty dispondant generally. I just extended my warranty for another 2 years but in reality it doesnt cover as much as the original one....which is not what it said on the tin!

didnt get nothing out of them,didnt even get the wheel stud replaced,which is the reason i left work early to take it in to them...instead they broke the locking wheelnut and completely demolished the the key for it.so ive come away with still only 4 nuts on me wheel,and one of them is the broken locking nut,no key for the 3 locking nuts still on the other wheels and a still broken wheel stud....WOT A FUKKIN JOKE!!! :(:(:( and they're supposed to be a main subaru dealer,how bad is this???

just got back from my local sts man on wheels where i get my tyres at a better rate than the big sts man on wheels up the road,and he got the broken locking nut off straight away by hammering a socket onto it and using a ratchet,came off well easy,fukkin wierd!!! lol,but then one of the other nuts wouldn't undo,it started to and then went tight,the geezer said he didnt want to try it to hard just incase he breaks another stud(leaving only 3 on that wheel)better get on to the dealers and get some more studs ordered for when it goes back in at the weekend cause the geezer at sts said that the threads on all the studs are all very rough...heavy **** or wot!!! :(

Changing the studs should be fairly easy, once youve removed the wheel and disk.

I have just changed 2 studs on my drivers side front hub. Parts cost roughtly £3.50 from subaru (part number 28055aa002).

Easy to do with little mechanical knowlage. I took off the wheel, 4 pot, disc, dust catcher and a sensor, changed both of my studs and re-assembled it all in about 30 mins.

sly fox thats cheap mate i didnt realise they were only 3.50 a stud,dealers were gunna charge me 36 quid to do just one stud,im glad they couldnt get the wheel off now lol,have to get meself a few studs and take it to a place ive been recommended to use as i swore i wouldnt do any of me own repairs to the scoob after always doing previous cars meself,but even so itll be cheaper than the main dealers i should think.

well ive just been and bought a few hub studs at £3.50 each and now im gunna book it in at dj motors in gillingham(they've been recommended) as apparantly he's owned a couple of scoob's himself :)
