What do you think is the best polish to use, I am collecting my new STI8 next week and have been told that Autogym could damage the paintwork.

Any replies most welcome

LOL! Who told you that? Turtle Wax??! :D

If you want a polish, Autoglym is adequate. Zymol is sort of ok.

If you want a wax, Swissol is the way to go. £135 or thereabouts will get you a nice starter kit, and you'll know you're giving the bodywork the best possible protection from the outset.

Have a look in the Scoobyshop section for details. :)

Autoglym doesnt ruin paint work though its not the best polish to use. There is a difference between a POLISH and a WAX. A polish contains light abrasives, oils and fillers but no WAX. A wax is just a top coat which gives a nice shine. A new car with fresh paint should be allowed to cure between 60 and 90 days. A wax should not be used JUST POLISH! Unfortunatley we dont have good quality polihes that can be used on freshly painted cars. I will be starting a small business bringing in exclusive polishes and waxes from America which are 100 times better than what we have available in the UK and at much lower prices.

Many thanks

Gerry

I used the full Autoglym range including the polish and top coat on my last car (Red MX5) for 12 years and it looked as good when I sold it as the day I bought it!

They make some fantastic products. (But the polishing cloth was always red when I'd finished)

tried a few and AUTOGLYM super resin polish came up the best, sometimes finished of with AUTOGLYM extra gloss protection for a grrrrrreat finish.

I use Swissol which in my opinion is the best on the market. Its not cheap with the basic starting kit being over £100 though.

Look at www.scoobyworld.co.uk under cleaning

Fairy Liquid and a Brillo Pad.

Do a search on here for Swissol, look at the pics in the Member's Gallery and you'll have your answer.

I use autoglym super-glym polish. very good stuff m8.

Barnesy 10 October 2003 01:29 PM

If you don't want to spend daft money, you can't beat the meguiars range, I used to use autoglym until Meguiars.

Swisoil is best I think , but Zimoyl is a very good alternative , and it smells great , from Halfords about £11

SPIT AND POLISH! :)

AllanB 10 October 2003 06:48 PM

I'd never use Autoglym. Try Meguiar's, mile better and still very good. I'm still using my WaxWizard Subaru Was I bought 3.5 years ago and thought it was expensive at the time. I reckon it will last me 5 years at this rate. Swissol stuff it same if not better quality !

Best polish you can buy... Maguires Gold class... trust me after going through every polish on the maket over several years this really is the dogs bo!!ocks... Really deep shine gets rid of the swirls and its not too much hard work. i saw a car in the states that was soooooo shiny I asked the guy what he used, and this was it, down to Wal-Mat and $10 got my best purchase of the hol... I was going to put a post on Scoobynet... Its about £13 here but trust me you'll be well and truly pleased! if you get some; post back what you think! @ service the dealer actualy said what the hell you polished it with!

tip leave it on 15-20 mins!

Sign of a good wax is a nice beading.
