Hobo_Jojo 10 October 2003 11:05 AM

anyone? i just got paid so might go get one on my lunch dependin on whether its worth it or how much would be. copy n paste copy n paste come on now kids!

Hobo_Jojo 10 October 2003 11:19 AM

would it be more worthwhile bangin in a new motherboard and processor or will that 2600 be good enough? (main uses for pc are graphics, some games(not brand new ones xbox is for that) and web design and internet stuff) might get some new ram too? can u put a 256 ddr in with a 512?

DJ Dunk 10 October 2003 11:25 AM

IMO, ditch the K7S5A. Had a couple of them and my NForce2 based board is miles more stable. You won't be able to take advantage of the 333Mhz FSB of the processor with the ECS board wither IIRC because it doesn't take 333Mhz DDR.

Hobo,

I'd suggest you look around as a number of places do MOBO/CPU combo's. You can pick up a rev 2.0 NForce 2 MOBO with XP2700+ for next to nothing these days and teed up with a half decent graphics card (like a 9700 or 9700 pro) you'll be laughing for the next 12 months. And i doubt it'll cost you more than £200-250 for the lot.

im still running this board with an XP2400 @ 2140 and is very stable... equiv to a P4 2.6 in most benchies.....

you can get an xp2400 for £60 inc these days...
