Thanks. The dealer you recommend's probably a bit far from me (I'm in East Lothian) but I've a tame garage owner freind. The car's got 19k miles "on the clock" (Could be anything I suppose) and I don't know the history or when it was last serviced (the oil's still very clean). If I go over to SUL will / should I have to perform the fabled ECU reset? Ta. |
Help folks.
I've had my MY94 WRX on the road for a month and it's excellent. However, I've noticed a dropoff in performance, particularly acceleration wise. The car seems rougher when accelerating from about 4k5 up to the point of almost seeming to misfire slightly. Does this sound like a plug /fuel problem maybe? I started out using super UL but switched to supermarket UL due to availablity / cost. I'm having the car serviced in a few weeks, so should I refrain from panicking until after that's done? Also, can anyone say which service parts are different from uk models and point me to any sources? Many thanks in advance Norrie. |
Norrie,
I also have a MY94 WRX and have found that it doesn't run nearly as well on normal UL as it does on SUL. Pick-up, smoothness and fuel consumption all suffer (although unfortunately the difference in MPG doesn't offset the extra cost SUL http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/frown.gif ). If you're going to run on NUL then I'd suggest avoiding supermarket fuel as this seems to be lower quality (in general) than normal forecourts. Mine's due a service shortly too and I wouldn't be suprised if the plugs need changing. I notice that Subaru recommend a change every 15k miles and mine weren't changed at the last intermediate service (when I got the car). Without seeing the car, it's not easy to diagnose, but from past experience (not with scoobies) the plugs are always worth a check. I've been quoted £120 for the basic service (oil change etc) from Park Lane, Alton (£45 ph). Forgot to ask if they provide a courtesy car though. They specialise in imports and normally have most of the usual service parts in stock. Cheers Ken [This message has been edited by Kenny (edited 24-06-99).] |
Norrie,
Can't say on the reset as I haven't tried it. When I first got the car I used to swap between NUL (workdays) and SUL ("fun" weekends) and the car seemed to respond accordingly. Now it seems to make less of a difference so maybe the averaging effect of the ECU is coming into play. I'll have a chat with Park Lane when i get it serviced.
