does anyone know what the knock sensor does and how it affects the running of the engine if its faulty??

the knock sensor detects pre ignition sometimes known as pinking.
it should then let the e.c.u know thus retarding the ignition .

A knock sensor is basically a detonation sensor. The Knock Link from BPM is an excellent product eliminating detonation since it cures it by warning you when detonation is about to occur.
