I need your help.

2 pints of semi-skimmed milk have spilt in the rear passenger footwell, and it STINKS! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Does anybody have any bright ideas re cleaning and smell removal?
I have washed out with carpet cleaner twice, and latterly with Zoflora disinfectant. Any "old wives remedies" out there to help? I don't know what is worse, the smell of rotten milk, or all the air fresheners I have been buying!

get a valeter on the job and pay da money. They will sort it quicker and more succesfully than doing it yourself!

you should have bought skimmed milk,its much healthier and is just coloured water!!!
i had same problem with a pint on the seats, so just flooded it with water and left it to dry,smell went in a couple of days!!

Nasty one, especially with the warm weather coming in. This very same thing happened to one of my friends a few years back.

Chances are that the milk has soaked through the carpet, and is fermenting in a puddle underneath.

Trying to mask the smell won't do very much, as it will always come back. The best option is to remove the carpet, shampoo, dry and re-fit, however this is a major piece of work.

It should be possible to lift the rear seat base, and the plastic kick plate on the sill, and get underneath the carpet to clean it all underneath. Give the carpet a good shampooing from both side, and keep the carpet raised until it's completely dry.

I agree with Johns Idea - get the carpet out - my father once had an Austin Princess (yuck) and spilt a pint of milk in the front footwell when the car was less than 1 month old - it still stank on warm days when he gave it back 3 years later http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Scoobies have lots of sound insulation under the carpet. It will have soaked through.
It is not too horrendous a job to get the carpets out. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
Front seats, Rear seat, trim on door edges, centre console around hand brake and various fastners.
It really will need cleaning out from underneath too! Do it properly and you will be very pleased at a job well done.

It is well known that the only thing worse than milk spilt in your car is an angry skunk on the back seat - and the skunk is easier to get rid of! Professional help needed I think!

Same thing happened to me just after I got the car. Went for a long drive to get a 6 pint of milk, put it in the boot and forgot about it on the spirited drive back! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif
Got back and had lost 3 pints through various dents.
Got rid of the smell with an antibacterial washing up liquid.

Apparantly putting a piece of chalk or lemon (I can never remember which one) in the boot absorbs the smell.
Never tried it myself.

There is a product called 'renew' which I am told (by SuzyQ) that will work wonders on spilt milk. I believe that you can get this product from Halfords. Might be worth a go. Only other option is the good old valeters.
