I was coming back from a quiet weekend in Wales (recovering from a cold, apologies for missing the West meet on Sunday) last night down the M4. I was doing around 80-90MPH.

Suddenly the speedo needle dropped to zero, and there was a judder from the engine and I lost all power, until the car settled down at around 60MPH. Then the CHECK ENGINE light came on. I pulled off at the next services (only 2 miles down the road luckily) and stopped the car. After a quick engine inspection, checking all leads, fluid levels etc... I found no obvious problems. Could the speedo cable have snapped causing the limiter to kick in? But I was only doing 90MPH...??

The speedo cable has been clicking very faintly for the last 1500 miles.

At first I thought the Turbo had blown (see previous thread turbo baring noise 8200 miles) but it sounds OK. After leaving the car overnight, the CHECK ENGINE light has gone out this morning....strange??

I'm going to call DRScars this morning to get the speedo fixed, and I hope that the cutout was caused my this.....

Yep. As I expected. Dicky speedo cable. I took the car down to Protek here in Bristol (who originally fitted it) after phoning up DRScars yesterday morning and after inspecion they said the "lad" who put the cable in had kinked it......

Anyway, a replacement will be in sometime today and all should be well. They also told me that they did all sorts of mods for my WRX and also servicing etc etc....very handy..they specialise in automotive diagnostics and had some pretty awesome cars there....
