Can anybody confirm that Scoobies have long clutch pedal travel as normal?

The clutch has to go down the floor to change gear and the bite point is right at the top.

My M reg WRX has this and I find it really irritating as well as slowing down gear changes. I've always prefered a low bite point on my cars.

I queried this with the importer who said all the ones he'd had were the same. There appears to be no adjustment on the pushrod.

I still wonder if this is normal or if I have a worn clutch (doesn't judder or slip though) and the importer is trying to avoid a clutch replacement.

Any comments?

Sorry if I'm wrong, but I always thought that if a clutch bites at the top of it's travel - it's worn out. Maybe it's the other way around.....? http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/frown.gif

Yep, that's what I think too, hence the query, just wanted to check that Imprezas don't have a long pedal travel as standard.

My car (MY99) has been exactly the same from new.Catches me out when doing the odd mad dash- as the bite is right at the top of the travel you can tend to drop the power in before the clutch is fully engaged, making the car seem hesistant- a point brought up in other threads that may sometimes be due to the above???
A friends MY(late)98 seems easier and smoother to drive ( only when going banzai) With mine you have to concentrate more, so as not to screw up the quick change.

my car is also a my99.
the clutch come's 3/4 from the top and bite's full 4 a 5 mm under de top.
to chance gear i need 1cm from the top.

I have a STI V , I have also had the same long travel clutch bite from new . Caught me out first time out .

Long clutch on both the MY98 I test drove last year (.5 mile on the clock) and also my MY99 (now has 700 miles on it). Infact the MY98 was very odd. Letting teh clutch out it was stiff for the first 1/4 travel, like it was coming to the bite point, then spung out very easy for the next 1/2 travel before biting again right at the top. Very odd.

I suspect Scoobs bite quite high even without a worn cluth as its a hydrolic system which may self regulate to compensate for clutch wear (although I cannot confirm this).

Don't see why they haven't made the pushrod on the slave cylinder adjustable though. I've had several Mki Escort Mexicos with hydraulic clutches and they had a threaded pushrod allowing the bite point to be set nicely thanks very much http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/smile.gif
