Whilst I was at Scooby Sport the other day having my driving lights fitted I took the oportunity to fit an ITG filter.

When the Ramair came out it was in perfect shape however it had become partial obliterated by dust/sand from our "unmade road" stage of Catalunya.

With the new filter in place there was an immediate improvement in pick up. However I suspect a cleaned Ramair would have been an improvement as well (but I am lazy)!

We have had a lot of problems with Ramair filters which seem to be over oiled from new.

We have an STi5 on the rolling road with a very odd fault which the customer had been trying to get fixed from dealers for some months.

The Filter had sucked itself into the air flow meter and was restricting flow. The car was behaving very badly. But the main cause of the problem was that the oil had come out of the filter and contaminated the air flow meter hot wire.

If anyone is running a Ramair we would advise you all the look inside the air flow meter and if you see signs of oil marking on the inside of the black tube then clean it all out.

Spray a pure solvent cleaner onto the hot wire elements carefully and blow clean with a low pressure air line. If oil gets onto the hot wire it will burn on and give funny output signals to the ECU.

What does ITG stand for ?

From reading other threads, the K&N filter is also highly recommended. What's the crack then? What makes one air filter better than another ?

ITG Is the manufacturers name.

Ramair filters are very flexible, and can be sucked into the intake if they are not fitted correctly. They also use foam as filter material.

K&N are less flexible and are less likely to be sucked in, they use a cloth gauze instead of foam.

ITG are like ramair, but are reinforced with wire grid over the filter material, and also have a stiffer mounting face, so again would not be sucked in to the intake as easily.

There are more but these are the only ones i have seen. eg Pipercross, HKS etc.

I fitted my ITG filter at the weekend (thanks Pete) just after I'd had the car serviced. I also hadn't driven it for a week (it was Ali's turn) so I can't be sure exactly what effect it's had but it doens't half shift from mid range now !
(I also get that over boost cutoff from reduced scoobysport back pressure when the air is cool or the engine is cold) - what fixes it (other than a light right foot :-)

cheers

Andy

So many filters to choose from......which one do IM dealers sell now in place of the Ramair ?

After seeing the Ramair that came out of the STi 5 at Power Engineering last week, I ordered a K&N straight away. When I took the Ramair out it was very dirty, especially considering it had been in for less than 4k miles.

The car feels better with the K&N, but I don't know how much of that is psycological.

Alastair,

Surely if the filter came out dirty it was because it was doing a good job... Even after 4K miles!?! http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/wink.gif

Induction Technology Group.

I'd like to order one, is the contact the same as noted in the website?

When you mention K&N filters are you referring to the simple flat panel replacement, part number 33-2031, or the 57i kit, part number 57-0247.

I installed and 57i on my MGF VVC and was very impressed with the difference in pickup and mid range response. Highly recommended.

Does anyone have any feedback on a 57i based kit on a Turbo?

Hello!

I received my RamAir filter from Scoobysport about 1 month ago. It was sticky all over, but not dripping with oil.

Question 1 is, how much oil is too much?

Question 2 is, where is the airflow meter located? On the top half or the bottom half of the air box?

Thanks for the input!

Best regards,

Jonas H
