Is it true that Bell & Colvill in Surrey now offer the Scoobysport exhaust (someonw mentioned it in passing on one of the mail lists) ? My car is due in next week (only 2.5 months late !!) and I was going to have B&C's performance exhaust (made by Cheesman's of Woking) fitted...but if the Scoobysport is an option then I may need to pop down and have a listen to both (if possible).

Benny Boy 01 April 1999 02:23 PM

No question, go for the scoobysport. I've heard both. Make sure they aren't charging too much for it tho'. Go to Sccobysport for it if they are and whilst you are there change your filter for a Ramair and have 245bhp.

Best regards
Benny
p.s. B&C haven't been too hot on the aftersales service. Good intentions don't necessarily make for a good back up.

Thanks for the quick reply, Benny !

Just as a matter of interest, what are the differences between the Scoobysport and the B&C exhausts ? If it was purely up to me, I'd go for the Scoobysport justr based on all the opinions I've heard, but I've got a wife and retired neighbours to think of, so if it's too loud then that'll be a problem http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/frown.gif

At tickover it emits a lovely burble that isn't that loud, just nice. At full chat however it is a different matter!

Aesthetically the Scoobysport beats it as well since the B&C looks like a 2ltr sport one.

Congrats on your new car

Benny

Hmmm...I think I'll have to pop down to B&C and see if they have examples of both ! If they don't, I may just take the standard exhaust and change it when I do eventually manage to listen to the Scoobysport box.

Thanks for the congrats...but I'm not counting any chickens until Charles calls me and says it's on his forecourt !!!

Sigma Cat 1 alarm. B&C quoted £636. Everywhere else between £336 & £380.

I was also told by them that they didn't think much of the Scoobysports exhaust and preferred to fit the Magnex system, for which they quoted £800 +. Price elsewhere, £400.

That's main dealers for you.

My 98MY 5Dr has a ScoobySport exhaust and will be at B&C on Monday 12th April for the 7500 mile service. I'll be picking it up between 17:30 and 18:00 if you want to hear it.

ScoobySport exhaust no good! Perhaps we should have a show of hands on who has them!

bye

I am not surprised they don't reckon much to it to be honest - I wouldn't if i could charge someone that much over the odds for an exhaust - for that money I would want ti to make me Coffee in the morning and bring me my slippers in the evening. As the webmaster says look at how many people have Scoobysport exhausts - Pete told me he is selling about 60 a month worldwide - how many are B & C doing?

David:

Perhaps you should also contact IM to see whether it will affect your warranty? Other people have said on the list that they have asked about the ScoobySport one and it is fine to fit it, aswell as the Prodrive one. No mention of Magnex though. Better check.

Dont hold your breath!

DavidLewis 07 April 1999 11:24 AM

Dear Webmaster

Not sure if your comment is directed at me, but I have the ScoobySport exhaust, so no problem http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/smile.gif I'm just offering ColmanC the chance to hear mine at B&C while it is there for a service.

ColmanC 07 April 1999 11:37 AM

David,

Thanks for the offer...I'm hoping my car will have arrived by then so it'll probably be too late, but if not I may take you up on your kind offer.

I've spoken to Charles at B&C (yesterday) and he said that they've fitted a couple of Scoobysport exhausts for customers and he reckons there isn't much difference between their's and the Scoobysport. He said they both had a nice, deep burble at tickover and were pretty much as loud as each other at speed.

I think I'll try the B&C exhaust first and, if I'm not happy, get them to take it back and replace it with a Scoobysport. The advantage is that there's no chance of B&C getting uppity with warranty issues with their own exhaust http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/smile.gif

All

I had the Bell & Colvill exhaust on my car for a few weeks - then I went to a Surrey Meet & heard a REAL exhaust in action - 1 week later I had a Scoobysport exhaust on the car.
The B&C exhaust looks like a pea-shooter also.
Call me sad but I have a wav file of the Scoobysport - anyone wants to hear it let me know.
I also tried a Trust exhaust (2 sections - 3.5 inch bore with a 5inch tailpipe!) which is for sale if anyone is interested.

Ta

Jules

The problem is B&C might not have any issues over warranties, but it is IM who have the final say! Upto you, but I would check it out first.

DavieR 08 April 1999 02:35 PM

I was speaking to my local dealer today, and the subject got on to exhausts. They told me they mostly fit Magnex exhausts, with no effect on the warranty

ColmanC 08 April 1999 03:21 PM

re: Warranties

This was one of the first things I asked B&C about when I decided I wanted a different exhaust, and I got the categoric answer that their exhaust does not invalidate the Subaru/IM warranty. I'd imagine that all exhausts *sold* by franchised dealers would be OK, but it's certainly worth checking.
