PICKLE 25 September 2003 05:30 PM

Not very happy!:( Had an AP Organic clutch kit fitted about 5mths ago(3000miles), with NEW GENUINE SUBARU thrust bearing, and ever since it's been noisy on idle. Ok I thought, just live with it, but now when trundling along in traffic, 2nd gear 2.5k revs you can hear the pressure plate 'fingers' dragging on the Thrust race!!(V noisy inside cabin) If I touch the clutch pedal slightly, the noise stops!
Anyone else got the same problem, as the only way I can see to get rid of it is too take the gearbox off again and change the Bearing
(I can't do this myself either!):( unless I can get rid of the free play some how??!!

Does sound like a faulty thrust bearing to me, unless there is excess "endfloat" in the engine crankshaft, and this is allowing everything to move backwards and forwards as you depress the clutch pedal.
Get a freind to watch the crank pulley, with the bonnet open of course, so with the engine running, he can see if the pulley moves forwards as you operate the clutch. Worth a try first, not going to cost much to check is it?
