You need some exposure. Try aplying to every free festival, charity gig, fund raiser, hospital radio etc. you can think of. This will get them experience on there CV and hopefully some paying work.
Record deals dont come from pretty faces and good voices, there are tons of those. If they havent got some professional management then you have to do it the hard way via doing the circuits as above.
My mates band, Lunch, won the Radio 1 national battle of the bands competition about 7 years ago. They had a recording session with Radio 1 and airtime exposure. They went on and played places like the Mean Fiddler, The Marquis and other top London venues. Mow this was at a time when Welsh bands were breaking through like zits on a 14 year old, and they never had a sniff of a contract, and the band broke up. He now teaches computer studies in a college.
I am not being negative, just a sober dose of reality. :D
