Having finally managed to get something showing on my web page, the picture & logo are coming out as a red 'x' can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong! The writing content of the page has come out fine.

Hobo_Jojo 24 September 2003 10:37 AM

have you uploaded the images? if so..
are they being linked to correctly from the page?

pele 24 September 2003 10:45 AM

Yes, I have uploaded the images, what do you mean by linked - sorry to sound so thick!
I used web design to do the page & cute ftp to upload it, I also uploade the images seperatlet, they are jpegs.

chiark 24 September 2003 10:47 AM

make absolutely sure that you've not MiXed Case or anything like that.

If the host uses a proper OS ;) , Test.jpg is a different file to test.jpg...

pele 24 September 2003 10:51 AM

No, it's all lower case. The designer I used you just drag & drop the images on the page & it writes the code for you

Mr.Cookie 24 September 2003 10:55 AM

pele whats the addy for it :)

pele 24 September 2003 10:58 AM

Promise you won't take the p*** out of it? ;)
here

Mr.Cookie 24 September 2003 11:12 AM

me take piss you aint seen mrcookie.co.uk :D

have you upload the pics to the kent scoobies stuff folder

boxst 24 September 2003 11:13 AM

Hello

I'd remove the spaces in the name of the folder, and as above check the folder and filename are exactly the same in terms of capital letters.

Steve.

pele 24 September 2003 11:13 AM

I'll have a look....

Da Booga 24 September 2003 11:14 AM

The pictures are in a folder called "kent scoobies stuff", you can either create a folder with that name using Cute FTP and put the images in there

OR

re insert the images onto the page but make sure the images are in the same folder as the web page on your own PC and not the "kent scooby stuff" folder. Then re-upload the page

Mr.Cookie 24 September 2003 11:18 AM

tis working now pele :)

pele 24 September 2003 11:26 AM

YESSS! My first page :D :D something so simple.... Had same problem with the text content last night, turned out I should have been calling it 'index.html' nothing in the instructions about that! ;)
Thank you all for helping a damsel in distress!
I may need your help later when I want to do some 'fancy' stuff :D

Dream Weaver 24 September 2003 11:43 AM

Good first effort, you may want to size your images properly and optimise them for size.

Your logo is over 100kb, whereas you can reduce it to under 10kb with no loss of quality.

pele 24 September 2003 11:52 AM

go on then , how do I do that? :D

pele 25 September 2003 12:03 AM

DW - are you going to tell me how to do that then? or are you winding me up :p

Mr.Cookie 25 September 2003 01:03 AM

pele

he's not winding you up

I haven't got photoshop - I use photostudio, should I be able to do it in that?
I can save it in
  • pict
  • tiff
  • eps
  • jpeg
  • bmp
  • photostudio
and the modes I can use:
  • bitmap
  • grayscale
  • indexed (2, 4 or8)
  • RGB colour
