In preparation for removing the heatshield (downpipe install), I am soaking the bolts in WD40. I've found 4 bolts, but where the hell is the 5th?

Is there a fitting guide anywhere? Couldn't find one on ScoobyMods.com

I'm also soaking the Lambda sensor - I assume this is OK.

PS - I plan to do this without a ramp or pit or without removing the intercooler etc. I think this should be OK (may use axle stands in worst case scenario)

Think you may well need to remove the intercooler, otherwise you wont be able to swing a socket wrench or spanner in there at all. Me thinks the missing bolt you search for is below the turbo itself, on the outside of the unit, normally reached by removing the air box which mounts to the inner drivers wing, then slide your "paw" in till you feel the front line of the heatsheild.
I dont know to any pictures anywhere which show then all properly.

The heat shield is split into two halves:

For the upper half:

There are three easy to get to, one rear facing towards the brake servo and two closish together on the intercooler side.

The other two are more difficult, closhish together near the turbo/up-pipe on the lower LHS of heatshield.

The one fixes into the side of the turbo/up-pipe bracket, the other is a little lower and joins the two halves of heatshield.

As for the lower shield - its best that you get at them from under the car.

Didn't bother refitting lower one - too much of a potch.

The 10 mins it takes to remove the intercooler will save you alot of bother later on in the job, as you will have alot more room and the heat shield will come out easier.

Hang on a second, are there 7 bolts on a heat shield?

I just read this in another thread!

fraid so 7 hold the top heat shield on then 1 going down hill you get at from the top and two facing the front of the car you get at from underneath. these hold the bottom shield on.

Last laugh on me mate!

There were only FOUR bolts - just took them off and the heat shield is now loose - I must add that these were a peice of p1ss to take off. Took the I/C off too and soaked the turbo bolts with some WD40, off pops the downpipe tomorrow.

Much easier than I thought and I ain't no greasemonkey!
