I've got a ADSL broadband connection and I need to connect about 6 machines around the house.
Will a Netgear Broadband Router do the trick? |
Yes, but IIRC they have a maximum of 4 LAN ports on the DSL Routers, so you may need a hub as well to manage all six PCs.
|
or alternately, get an ADSL Router with built in Wireless Access Point and connect some/all devices using wireless LAN cards.
|
why do you need 6 computers in your house?

I've just changed my router from a belkin (couldn't port foward for ftp) to a linksys 4 port switch and wireless router, has uplink to plumb in another switch or hub and works a treat i have 5 machines connected 4 hard wired (3 pc's and xbox) and 1 (laptop) on wireless cost £53 from ebuyer. Si |

I want LAN points in each room.
I have looked at the wireless route. This will be the best route to take. |

Make sure you know which one you are buying the correct router for your needs! Broadband routers aren't designed to plug directly into your telephone line. I suggest you consider an ADSL router instead because they have built-in modems allowing you to plug directly into your telephone line. Typical is thus - Netgear RP614 is a broadband router while the Netgear DG834 is an ADSL router. The latter would be best because the RP614 would need an external Ethernet ADSL modem (additional cost) for it to work on ADSL. |
Cheers mate, it can get a bit confusing
