As a new owner of a 96 Turbo saloon (low miles, FSH) I would appreciate any advice on the following:

Selecting reverse can sometimes be difficult (and noisy). Is this common?

Can anyone recommend a good roofrack for the saloon so I can cart around my windsurfing gear.

How do I replace the rear speakers in the
parcel shelf?

PS. In replacing my old car (an MX-5) I tried lots of different cars. Nothing came close to the Subaru.

It's not too common, but 1st/reverse can be "sticky" to select when cold. The best thing to do is release the clutch and press it down again if it doesn't go in first time.

I believe they improved the clutch for the 97MY cars onwards.

The rear shelf can be removed to fit new speakers, but it's a bit tricky. There were instructions on how to do it somewhere, but I can't find them to hand. Perhaps someone else will post them http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/smile.gif

Try selecting second gear prior to first or reverse and the difficulty/noise may be overcome

I used to get "graunching" when selecting reverse & it used to be a little reluctant to get into reverse when cold, but since fitting a quickshift over a year ago all those problems have gone.
Can't think, though, why a quickshift would help as it only shortens the throw.
In fact for pre97 cars, I think a quickshift is the best low cost mod you can do.
It transforms the gearshift completely on earlier cars.

I have a 98 turbo saloon and bought the subaru roofrack to maintain the warranty it looks very similar to the thule roofracks sold in halfords.i think halfords do there own make to fit the scooby.

you can plug in your car make and model (choice of saloon or hatch) and it comes back to you with all the named components you need (complete with model numbers) which you can then order.
