i have a 1999 uk spec turbo prodrive wr which seems to of developed a holding back type symptom when driving hard giving a misfire type feeling.the car has a hks induction kit,blitz dump valve & blitz back box.has also had a new lambda sensor fitted.has anyone got any ideas.not got any faith in local subaru dealer as they eem to damage my car everytime it has bin taken in.

You are taking a bit of a risk running the HKS induction kit with this model year of car. These kits have a nasty habit of promoting both MAF sensor misreads, and ultimately failure, both of which could lead to serious engine damage.
There are many things it could be, but given that you've already changed the lambda sensor, the likeliest suspect at this stage would probably be a failing or misreading MAF sensor making your engine run too lean under boost. The "misfire type" feeling you report could be det, so are your KnockLink and AFR meter registering anything anomalous? If you don't have these fitted, order them tomorrow, and assume the worst and keep your foot off the gas until you've either got them fitted or have had the MAF sensor checked. STILL GOT THE ORIGINAL AIR BOX SO NO PROBS THERE.WHY DO YOU SUGGEST THAT THIS INDUCTION KIT IS NOT A GOOD ONE FOR THIS MODEL OF CAR WHAT ARE YOU SAYING CAUSES THE PROBLEM.WHERE DO YOU GET THE KnockLink and AFR meter FROM & HOW MUCH?

Already said why the induction kit isn't such a good idea - danger of MAF sensor misreads and damage. The MAF on the 99&00 cars seems to be more prone to damage than the earlier model years (jury's still out on the MY01-> type), so better to be careful than blow your engine.
Get the KnockLink here and the AFR meter here. While you're shopping you might want to get hold of a new keyboard, as the shift key on your current one seems to be stuck on. :rolleyes: |
