Hi.. I'm considering an Impreza, but can't seem to find any real info. on the 4WD system. Is it fixed or variable split, front / rear or vari to all 4 wheels, etc..
I've looked in car owners manuals, but there's no details..
Is there a decent technical resource anywhere on this, or can anyone help?

Thanks,

Graham

There is some info in the FAQ on it, but probably not to the level that you require.

Basically, the system uses viscous couplings in the centre and rear differentials, which means that the system is continously variable, with power getting fed to the wheels with most traction.

Some of the Japanese spec models (eg Type R), have electrically adjustable central diffs.

Essentially you don't need to worry about it, other than to know it works very well, and you never need to worry about it.
